HELP PROTECT OUR FORESTS More than 200 separate forest fires are burning in Ontario and Quebec, many out of control, as a terrible toll is being taken of forest resources, In Ontario alone, there are more than 129 fires according to recent reports, and there have been go many now outbreaks in recent days that travel restrictions havo been imposed in a number of areas, It is frankly stated by officials that all too many of the fires in the tinder dry bush have been caused by downright carelessness on the part of campers and tourists, carelessness which is causing untold damage to vital re- sources as well as personal property, So once again in Terrace Bay News we would like to stress the fact that too much care cannot be taken by persons walking or driving through wooded areas, including cane pers and parties on picnics, Fires start so easily from a carelessly thrown match or cigarette butt and all too often a campfire which was considered to be out, breaks into flame long after it has been left. So when in the bush = be careful = help protect oum forest resources -- we depend on them for our livelihood. Onno BOWLING ALLEYS PROPOSED FOR TERRACE BAY A meeting of importance to all residents of Terracé Bay will be held in the Community Hal next Thursday evening, September lst at 7:30 p.m, For seme time now, the Community Recreation Committee has been hard at work de-= vising ways and means whereby bowling facilities could be established by early Fall and plans have now been developed to a point which will permit this objective to be achieved providing, of course, that residents of the cormunity give their approval, In line with section 10 of the Constitution governing Recreation at Terrace Bay, notices to all residents have gone out calling the meeting, ; The principle decision to be reached coneerns financing which will run to approxe imately $10,000.00 and it is proposed by the Executive of the Committec that negotiations be concluded which will give the Committee 3 years during which to pay for the alleys out of profits. A careful appraisal of anticipated revenue indicates that this can be done, All facts pertaining to the proposal will be presented at the meeting.referred to above and it is hoped thet a good representation of Terrace Bay residents will be on hand next Thursday in the Community Hall to discuss the matter, o=0=0 MORE THAN 60 MEMBERS OF LEGISLATURE TO BE AT TERRACE BAY NEXT WEDNESDAY The number of members of the Ontario Legislature planning on vigiting Northwestern Ontario next week has now passed the 60 mark and coupled with other visitors of nde the group will be at Terrace Bay on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, August 31st. ; The majority @& the visitors will arrive by special train from the east at 2:45 PemM. and following visits to the Hydro Intake at Hays Lake and the Aquasabon Gencrating Station the group will be taken on a conducted tour of the Townsite, Millsite and mill. During the past two weeks, since the announcement was made that members of the Legislature would visit our community, a great deal of work has been done to tidy up around the town, The Company has done its share in this respect by clearing the park areas of undergrowth and weeds. There are still a few spots, however, which should be put in "ship shape" before next Wednesday and the cooperation of all residents in the community is sincerely requested.
