CULATION IN TERRACE BAY Tf _ May' 19,1949 j P amie ' , 4 " a bu EST A LO STi ek Ss fous en tee RECREATION COMMITTER MAKING EXTENSIVE PLANS On Monday evening, May 16th, the Terrace Bay Community Recreation Committee met for the third time since it was organized and dealt with quite a number of subjects related to the Recreation Program, All organizations connected with the Committee had been contacted by letter for information related to a budget which is being developed for the balance of the present year and in most instances replies were received, It was interesting to note that the majority of the organizations which had been operating for some time were prepared to assume financial: responsibility for the operation of their respective clubs or associations without appealing to the Recreation Committee for financial assistance, This, of course, is as it should be, since individual organiza- tions standing on their ow feet financially will leave funds available for extending Terrace Bay's program of recreation, The Tennis Club indicated that current revenue would probably permit them to complete the fencing around the courts and install lighting. The. Executive Committee granted permission to the Tennis Club to use the reflectors from the hockey rink for the current season, with the condition that the reflectors be returned to the hockey rink when the tennis season is over. The Canadian Legion, Badminton Club, Men's Softball Association, and the Curling Club, in submitting their budgets, indicated that they would be self- sustaining, The Senior Council of Teen Town will require assistance and additional information is being secured from this group prior to determining the amount of financial assistance which will be forthcoming from the Recreation Committee, No budget was received from the Hockey Association, A considerable amount of discussion centered around overall Community facilities which should be developed at Terrace Bay in the near future. Much emphasis was placed on the idea of developing a wading pool or swimming pool as a Community project. Information is now being gathered regarding this proposed project with a view to having the Executive Committee undertake the responsibility of raising funds for material, The pool would be built by volunteer labour on the part of residents of the Community, if present plans go through, The Community of Marathon has exceldent swimming facilitics which were developed on the above basis and there are nemerous other instances where .similar facilities have also been constiucted in thks manner, Such a project would require the whole-hearted co-operation of the entire Community and its several organizations, but co-operation of this type can assure much-needed facilities, Effort which has been expended to date at Terrace Bay along this line indicates that a real Community spirit exists, Our Curling Rink was built for the most part ona voluntary basis and both Churches converted con- struction buildings for their respective uses in the same manner, The question of bowling was also given serious consideration and detailed information is being assembled for further study by the Executive Committec prior to any specific recommendations regarding this activity. Rather than wait until June 20th, when the next regular meeting of the Committee is scheduled, it was decided that a special mcetinz would be held by the Executive Committee on Wednesday evening, May 25th. 0-0-0 BIRTHDAY BALL, FRIDAY, MAY 20th Enjoy the dancing from 9:30 p,m, to 1:30 p.m, in the renovated Recreation Hall to the music of Roy Saari's 1O-=piece popular Lakehead Orchestra, including vocalist, Tickets available at Post Office in South Camp and First Aid Room in North Camp, Dress optional, Door prize - a scenic boat trip from Rossport for party of four, Reliable baby sitters may be obtained by calling Mrs, Gordon Bird, Hotel Terrace.
