Dr. Kenneth Peckham, regional supervising coro- ner for Central Region, Cen- tral West Office, announced Wednesday, July 6 that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of 32-year-old Ricardo Soares of Cambridge. Soares, a married father of two, died on Nov. 17, 2017, from injuries sustained while working at a con- struction site in Oakville, on Ford Drive north of the Kingsway Drive/South Service Road area. The inquest is mandato- ry under the Coroners Act. "The purpose of the in- quest is to examine the cir- cumstances surrounding Mr. Soares' death," Peck- ham said in a release. "Once all parties with standing have the opportu- nity to present their infor- mation and ask questions of the witnesses, the jury may make recommenda- tions aimed at preventing future deaths from occur- ring in similar circum- stances." An outpouring of mourn- ing for Soares and support for his family can be seen on social media, with his moth- er Cristina Soares saying in a 2020 post marking 26 months since his passing, "miss u so much" and later adding, "It is so hard get back to normal life." The inquest is expected to last four days and hear from approximately seven witnesses. The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 25. Bonnie Goldberg will be the presiding officer and Jai Dhar will be inquest counsel. The inquest will be con- ducted by video confer- ence.
