While voters across the province prepare to cast their ballot in the June 2 Ontario election, many of them have questions about the process in general. To find answers, they turn to Elections Ontario, an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario that is responsi- ble for the administration of provincial elections and referenda. We reached out to Elec- tions Ontario to see what some of the most common questions voters have in the lead up to election day. Here is what's on people's minds: Q: WHAT IDENTIFICATION DO I NEED TO BRING TO VOTE? A: What ID you need to bring will depend on whether you are on the vot- ers list. If your name is on the voters list you must show one piece of ID that has your name on it. Your name as shown on the piece of identification must match your name on the voters list. If your name is not on the voters list you must show one piece of ID that has your name and resi- dential address. A list of accepted identi- fication documents can be found on Elections Onta- rio's website, elec- tions.on.ca/id-require- ments. Q: I DID NOT RECEIVE A VOTER INFORMATION CARD - CAN I VOTE? A: Yes - you can vote if you did not receive a voter information card. You can find out when and where to vote on the Elections Ontario website. Please remember to bring a piece of ID that includes both your name and ad- dress to vote. You can check if you are registered to vote using eRegistration, visit eregis- tration.elections.on. Q: WHEN IS ADVANCE VOT- ING? A: You can vote at any advance voting location in your electoral district from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. East- ern Time between May 19 and 28. Go to voterinforma- tionservice.elections.on- .ca to find your advance voting locations. Q: CAN I VOTE AT ANY VOTING LOCATION ON ELECTION DAY? A: On election day, June 2, you must vote at your as- signed voting location. You can vote at your assigned voting location from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can find your as- signed voting location on your voter information card or at voterinforma- tionservice.elections.on- .ca. Q: HOW DO I APPLY TO VOTE BY MAIL? A: You can apply online to vote by mail at voteby- mail.elections.on.ca or download and print the ap- plication form at election- s.on.ca. If you choose to print your application, you must submit it in one of two ways: email to sb@elections.on.ca or mail to Elections Ontario, Spe- cial Ballot, 51 Rolark Drive, Toronto, Ontario M1R 3B1 Elections Ontario must receive your application by 6 p.m. on May 27. Once your vote by mail applica- tion has been reviewed and approved by Elections On- tario staff, a voting kit with a ballot will be mailed to you at the mailing address provided on your applica- tion. Once your application has been approved, you will be unable to choose another voting option. Q: CAN I TAKE A PICTURE OR SELFIE WITH MY BALLOT AT A VOT- ING LOCATION? A: No -- to ensure the se- crecy of the vote, cameras are not allowed in voting locations. Taking a picture of a completed ballot, yours or anyone else's is a violation of the Election Act.
