COMMUNITY VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE NEWSPAPER CARRIER Two years after its last live perfor- mance, the Burloak Theatre Group re- turns to the stage with the musical "Rent," April 6 to 10 at the Oakville Centre. Set in the east village of New York City, the story follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musi- cians struggling to survive under the shad- ow of HIV/AIDS. "Rent" won the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Burloak's production will include Rob- ert Glean, who was in the Broadway pro- duction of "Rent" for three years, toured nationally with the cast and was later in the Canadian production of "Rent." Rent runs April 6, 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m.; April 9 at 2 p.m. and 7:30; April 10 at 2 p.m. at the Oakville Centre. "Our ticket sales are doing well on cer- tain days and are slower on others. Check- ing in with other groups, this seems to be what is happening to them too. We want to encourage people to attend. Be as safe as you need. You can wear your mask at all times," said Burloak's Tim Cadeny. "Rent" is the only show announced for the 2022 season; however, the theatre group is looking at shows for the fall and will present its holiday pantomime Dec. 17 to 19 at Film.ca cinemas.
