VETISKA, Frantisek October 17, 1939 - March 7, 2022 ------------------ Dr. Frantisek (Frank) Vetiska passed away peacefully on March 7, 2022 in his 82nd year. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Jana. He will be dearly missed by his son Petr Vetiska (Sandra), daughter Jane Healey (Paul) and grandchildren Clara and Liam. He also leaves behind many other family, friends and colleagues in the Czech Republic and Canada. He was a courageous and resilient man who overcame many obstacles. He was born in Strakonice, Czech Republic. He became a paediatrician and was so dedicated to his patients, often reaching them on cross country skis in remote villages in winter. The communist regime forced him to flee the country. He arrived in Canada in his mid-40s, didn't speak English and had nothing but a few suitcases and a family to support. He suceeded in obtaining his Canadian license and ultimately worked until retiring from medicine at age 80. We were so fortunate to make incredible memories together. We are respecting his wishes and will not be holding a formal service. His final resting place will be at the Burlington Memorial Gardens. HUBACKECK, Bette ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Bette Hubacheck, born August 3, 1921, passed away peacefully at her Oakville residence on February 6, 2022, surrounded by close family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Wencel (Hub), her parents, Howard Netherton and Alfreda (nee Ash), her sisters and brothers Ruth and Doris, Russel and Lloyd, beloved children William and Lynn and son-in-law Nathan Zavier. Bette is survived by her son Peter (Teresa), and her grandchildren, Paul (Eleasha), Eric (Maria), Adrian (Kristine), Maxwell (Oonah) and Max Ryan (William's partner). Bette was born in Englehart, the daughter of two pioneers whose families established farmsteads in Northeastern Ontario near Charlton and Tomstown in 1905. While clearing bush her father discovered a gold showing which was grubstaked by Lincoln Nipissing mining Company from Cobalt. The lure of the gold hunt propelled her father to join the Larder Lake Gold Rush in 1907 as a prospector and camp builder in the Gowganda, Cobalt and Silver City mining camps. In 1922, Bette's family survived the Great Temiskaming Fire. Their farmstead near Charlton was destroyed and they were evacuated to Sebringville in southern Ontario. The call of the north beckoned and soon her family returned to Englehart to begin a new life operating a Shell gas station and grocery store. During the depression years, Bette and her family participated in the building of the United Church in Englehart. Bette's fondest memories were her summer camp experiences at Camp Lorrain on Lake Temiskaming and wintertime ski excursions visiting clubs at Charlton, Larder Lake, New Liskeard and North Bay. Most importantly, her mentorship as a Canadian Girl in Training at Camp Lorrain guided her for the rest of her life. At the end of the great war in 1945, she attended Summer School for Teachers at Queen's University. and achieved her dream of becoming a music teacher at Queen Elizabeth Public School in Kirkland Lake. In 1946, her sister Ruth invited Bette to her place for dinner in Rouyn at the Stadacona Mine where Wencel took his first job after the war. When Hub & Bette met, it was love at first sight. They married in 1947 and moved to Duparquet, Quebec. During the 1950 to 1959 era, Bette and Hub had three children - Peter, William and Lynn. The family resided in Duparquet, Malartic and Val D'Or as Wencel's career advanced from chief geologist at the Beattie and Canadian Malartic mines, then mine manager and builder of Rainville gold mines in northwestern Quebec. In 1960, Bette and Hub decided to move their family to Oakville for career and family reasons. Hub founded a mining consulting practice in 1965 and was a trusted technical advisor to Paul Penna and participated in the management of Agnico Eagle Mines up to 2002. Throughout their lives, Bette and Hub have shared a deep appreciation of human culture and nature with their family and grandchildren. Cottaging in Lake Temiskaming, traveling to Europe, Florida, Arizona and the Caribbean were treasured experiences. Bette never forgot her roots in Temiskaming Country and cherished her lifelong family relationships with her close knit siblings. Throughout her life, she made lasting friendships which contributed to her longevity. Bette and Hub were avid birders and enjoyed this hobby with their children and grandchildren with excursions to Point Pelee, Georgina Island and Sanibel Island. In Oakville, Bette was active in the community with the St. John's United Church, Women's Association of Canadian Institute of Mining, South Peel Naturalists Club and a volunteer and philanthropist for the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. She loved her chosen vocation and instilled a love of music carried on by her children. Her cheerful introspective mentorship and love of nature will be greatly missed. A memorial for Bette is being planned for the springtime. Condolences can be posted on the guestbook for Bette at oakviewfuneral.ca GRANT, Charlotte (Lottie) June 1, 1933 - March 13, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Died peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family on March 13, 2022 in her 89th year. OBITUARIES ANNOUNCEMENTS OBITUARIES A sweet little flower, nipped in the bud, no grief or sorrow knew; just came to earth to win our love and then to Heaven withdrew. No stain was on your little heart, sin had not entered there; and innocence slept sweetly on that pale white brow so fair. You were too pure for this cold earth, too beautiful to stay, and so God's holy angel bore our darling one away. 1-800-263-6480 classifieds@metroland.comCLASSIFIEDS OBITUARIES | ANNOUNCEMENTS | JOBS | MARKETPLACE OBITUARIES BIRTHDAYS OBITUARIES
