No doubt it came as welcome news to many residents who touted the adverse ef- fects such a location would have regarding noise, pollution, traffic congestion and safety issues. Mention was made of vari- ous politicians and groups that spoke of their involvement in advocating for the stoppage of this facility. However, all the benefitting Oakville residents must ac- knowledge the significant contributions spearheaded by the local group Residents For A Livable Oakville. This proactive organization initiated and co-ordinated the protest, communicat- ed for many months through Zoom, hand delivered door-to-door flyers, got sign plac- ards made and contacted the media (Oak- ville Beaver, CBC and City TV) who cov- ered it in the news. Notifications and invi- tations were extended to the mayor's of- fice, local counsellors and politicians about the protest, none of whom partici- pated in support of the well-attended pro- test. So, thank you to Residents For A Liv- able Oakville for their relentless efforts in halting Amazon. Afterall, we should give credit where and when credit is due.
