Miranda Burgess attended the Ringette Provincial Championships in Cambridge, March u - 17. Playing for the Whitby Tween 'AA' team who were" Central Region Junior 'A' League and = Playoff Champs, #the team competed against teams from Sudbury, Nickel Basin, Upper - Ottawa Valley, Gloucester, Cumberland, Waterloo, Grey-Bruce, Huron-Perth and host Cambridge. The team went through the round-robin with 4 wins, 0 losses. Victories in the first four games' were 3 - 2 over Waterloo, 7 - 3 against Sudbury and Huron - Perth, and a 5 - 3 margin over Gloucester. This placed the Provincially number one ranked Whitby team first Broomball series in The first round of best of five broomball series is now 'wcomplete with 2 very entertaining overtime affairs to determine who was going on to the final. In the first semi the Homelife Swampers saw Jason Price score their first of this game with 19 seconds left on the clock in the opening period. The second half saw the Swampers stake a 2 goal lead early in the frame with Mike Mole scoring from Brian Robinson. It looked as though Trader Sam's were done for the season 'until with just over 4 minutes in regulation time, Charlie Dennis connected from Gene Woodrow to pull them within one. USC placed 21st out of 63 participating clubs; Heather Lee in the girls 13 and 14 category came 2nd in the 200 and 400 freestyle, 5th in the 100 free, 11th in 60 free and 9th in both the 200tgnd 400 IM. events. 11 and 12 year old girls: Chrissy Lecompte placed 7th in both the 100 and ,200 breaststroke; Ashleigh Thomas placed 8th in the 100 butterfly the 100 back. Hans Fracke, boys 10 and urider, came 4th in the 200 free while Robert Lee Age 10 and under girls, Gillian Bryon came 9th in the 100m butterfly and Meredith St. John placed Juhi in the 50m breaststroke. The girls 10 and under 4 x50 relay team of Meredith St. John, Carly Vanderlee, Katié Lee and Gillian Bryon placed the Haley Thompson, Chrissy Lecompte, Ashleigh Thomas and Marcia Bryon teamed up and came 4th in the girls i and 124 xg MR. relay. : \ \ Sean Piels set up Jason Lee. Regulation time saw the two teams deadlocked at 2 apiece and it was on to the 3 minute total goals overtime. It appeared that this game was going to go an additional sudden death period, when with, 36 seconds to go in the period' it was Mole and Robinson hooking up again to give the Swampers the 3-2 win. In the final game of the day it was the Blackstock Brewers home ¢o the Brooklin Bruins with. the Bruins up by a game. Blackstock drew first blood as Tom Wotten netted one with the aid of Al Bouwmeester and Ron Wagg. Brooklin answered this one=late in the openin| period when Nick Attwoo set'up Rob Kivell. Again Blackstock pulled ahead with Wotten notching his o#nd from Ron Short and Wagg with 1:30 to play ifi the first. ! The Bruins would not die and tied it late in the second half with Attwood scoring from Luc Collard. With the in Pool A and gave them a bye to the semi-final match on Saturday against the winner of second in Pool B (Upper Ottawa Valley) and third in Pool A (Waterloo). Cumperland, the winner of Pool B awaited the winner of the other crossover game Gloucester and Grey- 'Bruce. Saturday's semi-final game agginst Waterloo, saw the Central Ragion Champs fke out a narrow come frpm behind 4 - 3 overtime, win. Whitby tied the game 'with just overya : minute' to'play and then notched the winner 20 seconds into the overtime. This put Whitby in the final for a rematch with Gloucester. The final was the best played game of the \tournament by both teams, that was an exciting chess match"of skill 'and wits that the goalies dominated. Both teams, successfully killed double penalties with Whitby. almost surviving 3 minutes tao players short At this point, Gloucester narrowed the gap to one with 7 minutes remaining. The momentum ebbed and flowed with each shift as each team tried for another goal. With 14 seconds 'remaining Gloucester took a body contact penalty and Whitby had the ring at centre ice. The game appeared to be won. On the ensuing free pass, intense Gloucester pressure caused a ring not to get picked, up and resulted in an interference penalty to next playoff round score tied at 2, both squads got ready for the total goals overtime. The Bruins got the first. one 'with Attwood scoring his second, this time with help from his brother, Ron. Wotten answered back with his third of the game giving him the natural hat trick. This game also looked like sudden death overtime but with 5 seconds to go and on a powerplay the BMins emerged the victors with, Attwood getting his fourth point of the game assisting Wayne Tate's counter. The Framer's Gallery evened 'up their series against the Stouffville Scorpions on the strength of a 3:0 shutout. Rich Brough potted the: first one fi Peter Kreistensen and Scott kee 5 minutes into the ame. This was followed up with McLeod scoring one of his own with help from Brian Kerry to give the Framer's a 2 goal lead at the end of the first period. Pearce Auctioneers Pearce Auction Novice spent the latter part of their first weekiof holidays participating at the Oshawa Lions Tournament. The Red Wings were our first challengers Thursday morning and we weren't quite awake yet as they scored.early. Port Perry fought back as Ashley Lucas scored from Tyson Savage. The Red Wings scored once again and held on despite Pearce Auctions many "chances, Michael Lycett was our most. game MVP, That nig] e challenged the Blackhawks. Port Perry scored late in the first period to take the lead as Keenan Geer drove in a centering pass from Danny Halward. It wasn't until midway through the third frame when Port Perry got their insurance marker. Danny Halward scored on a rebound frém Ashley Lucas agd Cassidy Weber. Then Kyle Mullins got our third goal with assists from Jeff Tomcheski and Shane Jeffrey. Nelson Langmaid and Matthew Roth had some close chances. Kyle Mullins was honoured as our' MVP Saturday morning we met a strong team from Nepean. Pearce Auction played their best game, of the tournament and put up a good, fight. Nepean managed just the one goal as Leo Taillon got a piece of it but couldn't find the handle pe had our gecasional offensive anger but couldn't score. Taylor Churchill earned MVP as he played a good strong defensive game. Pearce Auction competed well during thétournament and gach game could have went ei way. It was entertaining hockey put on by this Port Perry team. Leo Taillon played well solo and received a nice trophy for his '* shut:out in the Blackhawks 'game.
