Legionaires miss gold medals by a single goal The Port Perry Pee Wee Legionaries advanced to the championship of 'an A division tournament in Stouffville over the weekend before losing to London by a goal 4-3. Port opened 'the scoring in the second period of the final game when Matt MacMaster snapped up the puck behind' the London cage and did the wrap-around with an assist to Braden Tarbotton. Less than a minute later Jason Whitworth converted a pretty pass from Mark Blakley and Grant Hooker for the 2-0 lead. Carl Evans was having a strong game in goal but London took advantage of some poor passing to get their first of the match. - Tarbotton from Dave Justynski 'upped the margin to 3-1 with Port enjoying a man advantage. Penalties hurt the Legionaires in the third as they started the period with a five minute major, but the work of Skerratt and Wygerde held London at bay. But more penalties allowed London to tie the * game with just over five minutes to play and yet another penalty with 3:34 left on the clock gave London the 4-3 lead which they held til the end of the game. Port advanced to the final with a first game 2-0 victory over that same London squad as Scott Browson scored on a wrist shot with assists to Skerratt and Wygerde. Midway. through the second, Whitworth and Dane Grey went in on a two-on-one break. Dane . tied up the. defender and Jason found the top shelf on a great wrist shot. Sean Jeffrey and Blakley got the assists. Chris| Mongma made several fine stops to earn the shut-out. In game two against Woodstock, Evdns was strong in nets to record a 3-0 shut-out. All the scoring Port would need came from MacMaster, Dean Van Camp and Jason Whitworth Emiel's Emicl's PeeWee House League team had the Bopportunity to play two exhibition games this weekend against Aamco, from the Clarington Rec. Hockey League. The first game was at Port Perry arena Saturday morning with Emiel's coming out ahead 5-3. Goal were scored by Gerrard Timmers, Mike BlaMBy (2), Cameron M#¢Donald and David Halward. Assists were awarded to Sean Williams, Mike Sytsma, Gerrard Timmers, and Mark Richardson (2). Goalie Shawn Martin was §izzling between the posts, making spectacular savgs throughout the game Clarington goals went to Mitch Fontaine, Paul Wells, and Brandon Buckley and assisting were Emond (2) and Tyler Kohn. The rematch took place on Sunday evening at the Garnet Richard Community Centre in Clarington. This second 'game was exciting for Emiel's since it would be the first 'contact' game they had played. All of, the boys ~ Jamie + The blue line corps played well in both games to help the goalies with their shut-outs. Port advanced to the final with a 4-2 win over Cambridge on the strength of a' fine hat trick by MacMaster and a single from Van Camp. In six tournaments so far this the Legionaires have advanced to the final in five of them. Aamco was first on the scoreboard with a goal by Michael Albert, assisted by Tyler = Kohn. Emiel's answered back with a goal by Mike Blakey and assist by Mike Sytsma. Aamco went ahead again in the second period with a goal by Jamie Emond, and another assist by Tyler Kohn. The third period proved to be the most exciting of the evening. Emiel"s managed to tie the score up again with a goal by Mike Blakey, assisted by Mike Sytsma, but Aamco came back with a 'tie breaker scored by Jonathan Walker. Emiel's pulled the goalie with 1 minute left to play but just couldn't manage another goal. At the epd of the series each team managed one win and one loss each.
