Up first for Port was a game against the Oshawa Blackhawks of the Little NHL at the Children's Arena in @shawa on Jan. 7th. Port was in high gear and they got things rolling mid way through the period when Wyatt Park let go with a shot from the pint, which found its was into the Oshawa goal. . Setting up Wyatt on this goal was Shawn Hnatko. The second period was Port all the way as they were rewarded with four goals in this period for a commanding 5-1 lead. " Scoring the goals for Port were Danny Lyons, Derek Tindall, Scott Jeffrey and © Casey Jon Froats. Picking up assists were Adam Hobbs and Casey VanSchagen with two each and singles going to Wyatt Park, Scott Jeffrey, Shawn hNatko and Tyler Keeler. VanSchagen capped off a solid 6-1 win with a goal in the third period, set up by Jon Froats. Ryan Fraser played well in net for Part. Many thanks to Shawn Hnatko and Tyler Keeler, from the Bantam #2 team filling in for those players unable to attend. The next night back in the friendly confines of the Scugog Arena the Country Style Bantams were up against Uxbridge. The "past month these boys have been playing serious hockey as they get prepared for the play offs and Monday night was no Advanced Tykes off to flying start The new year has already proved to be exciting and challenging for the Advanced Tykes. Their first week was a hard-working learning experierfce, thanks to Craig Morrison and*his Power Skating School. This past weekend proved to be a hockey marathon. Dollar Plus Bargain Centre travelled to Sunderland to play against their Tyke Representatives. The Port Perry team worked hard producing great plays with the game " ending tied at 3-3. Kyle Paige, Scott Partington and Jared Olserf supplied the scoring for Port Perry, while Dustin Curran a Porg.perry resident got the hat trick for Sunderland Red Wings. Doing a great job in net for Port was Mark Copithorn. Next, Dollar Plus travelled to Blackstock for "who a practice with David's Hair Styling, which was just a warm-up for the real face-off, to take place later that day in Port. Back to Port, and playing goal for David's Hair Styling was Kyle Jones came tremendous saves. Dollar Plus had Scott Partington tending between the posts, also playing an excellent game. : Dollar Plus came up 'winning the game 5-3 with amazing plays by Jared Olsen, scoring 4 goals (Wow!) and Kyle Paige supplying the other. avid's Hair Styling showed some pretty impressive power and puck handling-with goals being 'chalked up by Alexandra Moffat, Britni Smith and Michael Wallace. What an exciting day, thanks to all the players and coaches. up with. different as they skated to a 4-0 win over the Uxbridge team. Port took the lead early in the first on a series of excellent passing plays. It was Dillan Weber to Adam Hobbs over to Derek Tindall who put her home for the first goal, Port never looked back. Scott Jeffrey found the twine of the Uxbridge once in the first and again in the second for a 3-0 lead after two periods. Helping Scott on his first goal were Danny Lyons and Brad Johnston and the second was unassisted on a fine solo effort. The fourth goal in the third was scored by Dillan assisted by Derek Tindall and Casey VanSchagen to round off the 4-0 win for Port. Mike McLennan played a strong game in .net for Port, earning the shut-out, and made a few sparkling glove saves. The following night, Jan. 9th, the boys travelled to Lindsay to play a make up game cancelled earlier in the season. Once again it was another solid 'performance as Port took this one 5-0. Five different boys "contributed to the scoring as Brad Johnston, Jon Froats, Dave Gainey, Derek Tindall and Scott Jeffrey all scored the goals. Picking up assists on'these goals were Troy Campbell with three, Dillan Weber with two and singles going to Danny Lyons, Scott Jeffrey, Casey VanSchagen, Brad Johnston and Dave Gainey. oN Ryan Raser played an excellent garb in net for Port and thoroughly deserved the shut out. Capping off this whirlwind week was yet another game against Uxbridge on Jan. 14th. In - keeping with their record being undefeated during this stretch, the Port Country Style Bediams won this game handily 6-3. Details of the game were unavailable at press time. This concludes the regular league schedule and play offs are tentatively scheduled to begin on Jan. 21st at the Scvgog Arena for these Port Perry Bantams. Don't miss this exciting play off action. Broomball round-up It's been almost a month since the Broomball league last played due to the Christmas holidays and last weekend's Ringette tournament but there were still a couple of entertaining games played this last Sunday in the local league. In game one of the day it was Trader = Sam's squeaking out a close 2-1 overtime victory over the Blackstock Brewers thereby getting them a point closer to the Brewers in the battle for third place in the standings. Blackstock notched'the first marker late in the opening period with Tom Wotten and Dave Dalton setting up Al Bouwmegster. his held up until midway through the second half when Trader's tied it up on a goal by Gord Jones from Jerry Piels and Gene Woodrow. In the overfjme the clincher was scored on a lone effort by Charlie Dennis. The, Brooklin Bruins blanked the Stouffville Scorpions in game two by a 7-0 margin to i their hold on first place overall. It was a big game for Wayne Tate as he was most of the offense, accumulating 3 goals and 3 assists for the Bruins. He ywas followed by Shawn Mitchell, Rob Mason, Nick Attwood, an Ron Attwood' with single tallies each. Mason, Mitchell and Ron also added assists to their stats. Rounding out the points with assists of their own were Luc Collard, Perry and Jim Mason, as well as Don Jansma. Jim Raaphorst recorded his tenth shutout of the season out of the fifteen games played thus far. The latest game of the day was also a nail biter between the Swampers and The Framer's Gellery as it looked like it was going to go the overtime route such as the first game. The Framers came out early in the game and gained the scoreboard first with Brian Mikkelsen firing in a screen shot from the blueline. Before the period had ended though, the Swampers were back in it as they tied it up on a goal from Brian Pomeroy t. As stated above it looked in the dying seconds as if, overtime was imminent until with 2.6 seconds left on the clock Mike Mole put in the winner with help from Jason Price and Mike Butt. This weekend coming up will see the league hosting their annual tournament at Sunderland arena starting Friday evening. Five of the local six teams will see action on the first night starting at eight o'clock with Brooklin leading off. They will be followed in order by Blackstock at 8:45, The Swampers at 9:30, The Framer's at 10:15, and Trader's at 11:00. The Scorpions will be up bright and early Saturday facing off at 8:15. Tween A's romp to easy victory The Pineridge Tween A's were host to the Mississauga Tween A's Sunday afternoon. These two teams had yet to play each other due to - Mississauga starting late with their league games and bad weather conditions. Port girls took command of the game right from the start and skated away with an 11-1 victory. Mississauga put forth a fine effort, had some great individual players, but were lacking in some team skills and passing plays. Our Port girls had just the day before had a good practice in which specific team passing drills were 'emphasized. The game was plagued with many penalties; 12 to Mississauga and 6 to Port. Scoring for Port was as follows: Mellisa, assists to Rhea and - Ashleigh; Mellisa, assists to Ashleigh and Rhea; Kim, assist to Rhea; Jen, assists to Mellisa and Ashleigh; Rhea from Jen; Stacey from Mellisa; Katherine; Stacey; Stacey from Kim and Nicole; Stacey from Alicia and Mellisa; and LeAnne from Stacey. A great team effort which resulted in every girl having many scoringi opportunities and assists being credited to all too! A personal best game for Ashleigh - Way to go Ash!
