=~ 16 -- Scugog Citizen - Wednesday, January 8, 1996 = Emiels nips Scala 6-5 in House League action Pee Wee House league fans enjoyed a great game between Emiels and Scala on Saturday morning, with a final score of 6-6. for Emiels. The action never stopped with the go ahead goal being scored by Emiels with only 19 seconds left on the clock. Emiels Gerrard Timmers had an exceptional game, scoring twice in the first period and once each in the second and third periods. Chris Glouster and Michael Blakey also scored a goal each. Assists were awarded to Chris Glouster, Gegrard Timmers, Cameron Vernest, Mark Richardson and Sean Williams. Special mention should go to Kevin Moore, who supported his line with some great passes. Goalie Haugens and Re/Max battle to a 3-3 draw Novice League play resumed on Dec. 30th at the Scugog Arena with Haugens and Re/Max playing to a 3-8 tie. This was a close game with the score going back and forth throughout the contest. Re/Max opened the scoring at 6:19 of the first period, David Stewart scoring with an assist going to 11:27 of the second period, Mitch Sauder unassisted. Haugens continued to pressure Re/Max by taking the lead on a goal by Glen Powell, unassisted. Re/Max then got a break, a breakaway effort by Darren Tapper and he made no mistake putting the shot through the pads of Brett Foster to even the second period, Owen Penstone restored Haugens lead, scoring unassisted. The third period was exciting and close, both teams playing very well defensively, strong efforts from Ceri Boomsma, Kyle Bowers, Haydon Fish, Timothy Gibson and Stewart Medford for Re/Max; and and David Dekoning for Haugens. With time running out in the third period, Kirk Stephens took a nice pass off the boards from James Hobbs and Stewart Medford to tie the score at 3. Both goalies played well, Trevor Algar for * Re/Max; and Brett Foster for Haugens. Sean Martin did a spectacular job in the crease and against a challenging opposition. Defensemen Brian Harris, Tyler Lucas, Mark Richardson, and Sean Williams played a great game in support of their teams effort. Scala put up a valiant fight, lead by Goalie John Barton who made some excellent stops. Scala goals went to Joe Farquharson, Rodney . Bond, Jeff VanNuyden, Glenn Thompson and Adam Luke. Tournament News Emiels had the opportunity to play in the Pickering PeeWee House League Christmas Tournament over the holidays. Although we didn't come away as'game winners, it was a great experience for the team to play against some very" skilled opposition. Goalie Sean Martin also put on a great show in the "shoot out competition" as did forwards Michael Blakey, Gerrard Timmers and David Halward. Most Valuable Player awards went to Gerrard Timmers and Sean Williams. a Great tournament for Re/Max boys The Sunderland Novice Tournament on December 29th will be much remembered by the players, coaches and parents of the Remax team, as they emerged champions. The day started off with a game at 9 am against the Oshawa Holiday Inn Blackhawks. The team certainly got off to a slow start, and never really found their legs, loping this one 5-2. Ohe thing was for sure, we really were not skating, we lacked hustle, we didn't play as a team. The coaching stafl chalked this one up as pre- tournament excitement. Scoring in this game were ' Norman Rooney (in the first period) assisted by lan Page and Josh-McCabe; and David Stewart assisted by Brent Meeking and Haydon Fish (in the third). The Championship Game was going to be a good one as 2 Port Perry Teams made it to the final, Remax vs Haugens. Without a doubt this was our best game of the year. There was strong offense, solid defense, and excellent goaltending. Our team put it all together, they played their positions, they had a good work ethic, and most of all they played as a team. The game could have gone either way. David Stewart got Remax on the scoreboard, 2 minutes into the game, with assists from Brent Meeking, and Andrew Adams. This lead held up till late in the third period when Andrew Adams scored .a timely goal, his first gf th season, with 1:53 left in the game, assists going to Brent Meeking and David Stewart. Final score was 2-0.
