It's great entertainment WATERWORLD AA now in Whitby Ah, summertime. I though I was going to be a part of those lazy, hazy days of summer. I have beén running around the country since the end of June. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. It was time for me to get serious and get back to work. Kids have turned out to be a very big part of my days this summer, 80, they told me I could take them and they would help me. The only serious advice I received was from my daughter who told me not to go soft on these articles because no one would read them. First of all I am nothing but soft, any softer and I would float away, second of all, it's summer; it's time for fun and frolic, so there. My choice (as usual) was the overbudget, over talked about, and over criticized Waterworld. I expected nothing less than near perfect from Kevin Costner. Admittedly $180,000,000. is a lot to spend on a movie, but it's their money not mine so I don't really care, This film has been number one in the ratings since its release. I spent a lot of time during this movie looking for all the faults I had read about, 'and to my untrained eye I couldn't find any. It is in the future when the ozone has depleted to the point of destruction and has completely melted the Polar Ice Caps and flooded the entire Earth. There Dick Assman at Kotya Peekin' The man made famous by David Letterman will be making two appearances in the Scugog area this coming week: Dick Assman, who works at a Petro-Can-garage in Regina, Saskatchewan will be at the Off- Road Jamboree in Janetville this coming weekend, August 11-13, and on August 15, he'll make an appearance at the Kotya Peekin' lingerie store in Port Perry. He'll be at the store at 1888 Scugog Street from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, where among other things, he'll be autographing lingerie. Assman became something of a h hold name when he was important for the next few weeks to effectively communicate your ideas to co- workers and those who work under you. This includes children if your work is your home. Your appetite for and while a definite boon to any relationship, should not completely dominate your mental processes. It is an exciting time within a ip! ARIES: (March 19 - Aptil 20) It is an excellent time to involve yourself in some form of community need, as your ability to sway others to your cause and goals through speeches or clever debating. Your thinking is clear, grasping and quick. Be careful, though, of taking it to the extreme and spreading your abilities and commitments into many Idrons of ing to convert loved ones could prove fatal to the intimacy of the relationship. TAURUS: (April 21 - May 21) family setting. Patémal instincts may come to the forefront now, and you may make every effort to appease any tensions and discord. Also there is a strong wish 10 make your surroundings as pleasant as possible. Whatever the outcome there may be some dissolution of family ties, if you do not assertively go afier the peace and contentment. GEMINI: (May 22 - June 21) Physical and | desires are intensified and any new ips will be quite intense for the next few months. This intensity rouses your imagination and romance is heightened. With this amount of energy involved, you gust take time to quietly take stock to prevent great di and hurt. If ful, there will be immense pleasures in store. Direct all your thoughts and actions to the desired effect, consciously. CANCER: (June 22 - July 22) You may be more reflective and nostalgic than usual, but this is understandable as it is near your birthday. Try to assert yourself for a few days on either side of the event, as new ventures will likely prove successful. You should also expend great zeal in new money-making efforts but show caution 10 what type of activities you engage in. Mostly though, you should avoid the desire to obtain materia) satus symbols for the next while. Assman has already made an appearance tour of western Canada and is now doing the same thing in this part of the country. He will be at the Off-Road Jamboree for all three days and on Saturday is scheduled to take a ride in one of those monster trucks. Marta Kastelic, owner of Kotya Peekin', contacted Assman's agent when she found out he would be making an appearance in the Scugog area. "I thought it would be nice to have him appear at a lingerie shop," she said. The agent agreed. His appearance at Kotya Peekin' will be taped and a segment will be aired on an up-coming Letterman show. One little girl had a small map tattooed on her back, put there by the last Ancients before they died with the secret of dry land. She is a valuable key to everyone's survival. Kevin plays Makiner the mutant human who, through evolution, has become part fish. He is certainly a keeper in my books. Because of this (gills and webbed feet) he is capable of diving and staying longer and deeper than anyone else. His treasures are desirable because. they haven't been seen by any living person. He uses these things to trade at the floating villages for the things that he hasn't been able to find. Dennis Hopper leads a group of losers called Smokers, who are also searching for the map on this girl's back. They really don't care if she is alive or not. They destroy village after village - searching for her, and of course they have picked the wrong village if the Mariner-is there shopping. Although the Mariner doesn't like people very much he doesn't like the idea of everyone trying to get this girl. He will protect her. Through open seas, near starvation and dying of thirst, he has become the protector of the ' girl and her surrogate mother. As luck would have it, the mom is the prettiest woman on board. The water action in this film is GREAT. The machines and boats, which I think were jet skies were 8000 cool. This whole film is very creative, you will see things that you have never seen before. They have a true system of recycling that will curl your socks and the fashions are all pretty much the same, fish skin this and fish skin that. I think that's the part I liked most about this movie, everything from the clothes, boats, fuel, food, ways of fishing, ways of powering their machines was really interesting. It cost me $4.75 to see this film during the day and if that can help pay back the $180,000,000, then so be it.
