Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, August 1, 1995 -- 3 A Township seeks nominees for awards In 1992, the Township of Scugog held its Inaugural Recognition Awards Ceremony honouring many volunteers in the municipality who made significant contributions to the growth of this'community. With the great success of the event and the very positive comments that were received following the evening, the Parks and Recreation Committee made recommendation that this new tradition continue on a tri- annual basis (once per term of Council). On October 26, Scugog will host its 2nd Tri-Annual Recognition Awards Ceremony in the new Scugog Centre Community Hall. In order to recognize volunteers and organizations for their valued 'contributions to this community we need the help and support of the many different groups. In the very near future, various groups and organizations will be contacted and asked to submit their nominations to the five award categories. Mr. Barkey received the award for the Most Improved Herd In the County and also received his 30 year veteran breeder pin. AWARDS CRITERIA Category #1 - Individual Award * Individuals nominated in this category for their unique contribution in helping to maintain and/or further develop a sport or leisure, cultural or charitable organization in the Township of Scugog. Category #2 - Special Awards Individuals or organizations nominated in this category are recognized because of longstanding contribution in helping to maintain and/or further develop more than one sport, leisure, cultural or charitable organization in the Township of Scugog. Category #3 - Provincial, National/International Awards Individuals or teams who have achjeved outstanding acclaim due'to a high level of skill and bring special honour/recognition to those winning gold or first in their special field at the Provincial/National/International level of competition. Category #4 - Youth Volunteer This individual award is given to the young person in this community (ages 14 -21) who best exhibits enthusiasm and commitment to 'volunteerism by outstanding parti¢ipation in more than one sport, leisure, cultural or charitable organization as a volunteer. Category #5 - Special Project or Service Recognition of individual or group.initiating a volunteer project or service providing benefit to the community. (e.g. environmental group, rowing club ..etc.) Paid coaches, officials etc. are not eligible for these awards as the criteria strictly refers to volunteers. In all cases, the Township of Scugog Awards Committee will be responsible for evaluating the nominations received. Poker Rally on lake August 26 is the date for a charity poker run on Lake Scugog. ! Open to boats, cruisers and personal water craft, the Poker Run will start at Goreksi Lakeside Recreation at 9:00 AM and finish there at 4:00 PM with a bar-b-q and the prize ceremony. This Poker Run is organized in memory of Lin Perrier, and all proceeds will be turned over to CARD, , the community association for riding for the disabled. The cost is just $35 for each vessel and there will be five stops at various places around Lake Scugog. You can pre-register prior to August 19 at Goreski's.
