In addition to the Utica Daycare GM dealers in Canada delivered a total of 33,899 new vehicles in April. So far this year (from Jan. 1 to April 30) vehicle sales are down nearly 11 per cent. The company has sold 119,248 vehicles so far this year, compared with 133,843 in the first four months of 1994. Despite the downturn in sales, GM vice president of marketing 'fom Mason said there is reason for optimism. "We are seeing reasonably strong demand for our lower priced passenger cars such as Geo Metro and Pontiac Firefly, and the Chev Corsica and Baretta," he stated. "Improving availability of the newly designed Chev Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire in April resulted in stronger sales of these vehicles." Sales of Chev Tahoe and GMC Yukon full size sport utilities jumped 85 per cent, while sales of Chev Blazer and GMC Jimmy compact sport utility trucks climbed nearly 70 per cent. In the model year to date (Oct. 1-April 30) GM has sold 211,219 vehicles, down 3.3 per cent over the 218,496 sold in the same period a year ago.
