It has something to suit most tastes and budgets. I recently had the opportunity to visit this tropical Central American country. It consists of 51,000 squares miles of everchanging countryside. You can explore the Caribbean or Pacific coast on one of the many Ecotours offered in the area. The Ecotour experience is not for those looking for a week at the beach. You must be physically fit and ready for an adventure with nature. Suntan lotion, mosquito repellant and good walking shoes are a must although I was there during the rainy season and did not find the mosquitoes as bad as Northern Ontario during the summer months. This is an excellent vacation for those who enjoy bird watching, hiking and seeing different species of animals. Accommodation in Costa Rica ranges from the very basic to superior. The San Jose Palacio is all the amenities you would expect in a deluxe hotel an< the food is excellent. The all inclusive Playa' Tambor located on the west coast has a beautiful unspoiled beach in a lush tropical setting. This property can only be reached by small aircraft or ferry but is well worth the trip. Those with a more adventurous back to nature spirit would enjoy the Punta Leona in the Province of Puntareanas. The rooms are basic but the forest and mountains are superior. Streams and cascading waterfalls abound in this area and there is a lovely private beach. My favourite hotel was the romantic "Villa Caletas". This property offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside on a secluded biiop setting. This is an excellent spot for first or second honeymooners and the dining is outdoors by candlelight. The best time to visit Costa Rica is between December and April as this is the summer season. Its incredible mountain Continental Divide and many are of volcanic origin. There are many aspects to this country from scuba diving, visiting museums, to watching sea turtles hatch by moonlight. _ Children can also enjoy such Activities as a visit to a butterfly farm, a snake museum or experiencing the wonder of a rainforest. Most motels offer superior rooms that are very comfortable for families. Costa Rica is one of the oldest democracies and is politically stable. Spanish-is widely spoken but many locals do speak English. Tourists are not bothered by those selling handicrafts or worse yet "condos". Everyone is friendly. Coffee and leathergoods are greht buys. As I said earlier, Costa Rica offers something for everyone. Fiesta Sun and Canadian Holidays are the only two Canadian charters presently servicing Costa Rica. Both of these brochures are readily available in our office.
