Midget Panthers rebound for a big win over Cobourg A fair number of fans braved the elements on Sunday, November 27th, for what proved to be an exciting' match up between the Midget Panthers and the Stouffville Clippers. Greg Thompson opened things up on a nice break away pass from Kevin Hobbs to net us our first goal. Seconds later, the Clippers, showing some hustle of their own, tie it up. There is not much the referees are letting go by on this stormy night!! Both goalies are doing the same and not allowing anything to get past them until, a superb set-up from Matt Hobbs to Ian McCready and then on to Jay King who pops it in and puts us in the lead once more. In the second period, our Panthers are on the prowl and really starting to annoy those Clippers. This must have been all the Stouffville Boys needed as suddenly we're tied again. What a game! Stouffville comes very close to gaining some ground on a great chance but John Babcock saves our skin with a big save on this one. This game is fast paced in the last remaining minutes of the period and there is "not much room at the inn" or so it would seem by the number of penalties. Unfortunately the Clippers grab this chance to zoom ahead by one goal. Not for lorig as Port comes back seconds later with a goal by Matt Hobbs assisted by Jay King and Jay Strickert. It's now 3-3 going into the third. After the flood, everyone is set for a big finish. Both teams are fighting hard in this period and the goaltending is strong. Stouffville is the first to increase their lead and that unfortunately is all she wrote folks. Although the Panthers never say die, they, eventually run out of time on the clock and Compton Novice keeps plugging with good effort Tuesday, Nov.29th, Compton Cable Minor Novice journeyed to Uxbridge for a 6:20 p.m. game. Port Perry was in tough against a well-drilled Uxbridge team. Kory Bauer, Taylor Churchill, and Shane Jeffrey worked hard checking defensively. Our offense was led by Tyson Savage, Derek Goreski, and a fine rush by Ashley Lucas who was up- ended and awarded a penalty shot Cassidy Weber made a gallant effort but was thwarted by a solid In spite of all Compton Cable's team playing, Uxbridge came out ahead. Saturday, Dec. 3rd, back at home, Compton Cable faced Markham 2 at 7 o'clock. Birthday boy Kyle Mullins played very well with team mate Jeff Tomcheski. Markham scored first but Keenan Geer struck back with a nice pass from Nelson Langmaid. Matthew Roth and Danny Halward played goalie hard both ways but couldn't stop the many lucky bounces of Markham. The next night Compton Cable were visitors in Bradford again fora 6:20 p.m. game. Port Perry started off quickly with an opening shot on goal by Ashley Lucas. She led the team with 10 shots this weekend and fulfilled the coach's request of five shots per game from the offensive players. Derek Goreski complimented Ashley's offense with great passing and tet loose a few good shots of his own. A smooth- skating Michael offensive presence was felt by all. Awesome defence was supplied by Kory Bauer, Todd Lance, Shane Jeffrey, Nelson Langmaid, and the two goalies Leo Tgillon, and Mark Carnaghan. Bradford still managed to win a well-played hockey game. Lycett's _ the final score is 4-3 Clippers. It was worth the snowy journey to see you play so well. Thanks also to Shane Norton and Jay Strickert fresh from a Bantam practice in Port for lending us their fine services. Monday night and with a ffl] squad, we're back in the saddle again!! This time on home ice and following a great Bantam game also against Cobourg, the stage is set. Tonight Scott Prechitko takes the reins and quickly looks sharp on numerous attempts by Cobourg to' get the ball rolling. The Panthers are battling hard in the first and late in the period go ahead on a goal by Tommy Chambers. Following a short intermission, Kenton slides one over to Jay King who fires a shot from the blueline. Daryl Bourgeois is there for a rebound and it's now 2-0 Panthers. That ought to wake up Cobourg!! Not soon enough however as Jay and Daryl get something going once again and Daryl grabs his second of the night. Nice work fellas! Cobourg is really getting testy at this point and the Panthers who haven't had a penalty during the game so far, are finally confined to that little square box. The guys have really been hustling throughout the entire game. Chris Drury (who is no slouch himself) has been mixing it up with the big boys and helping kill off some penalties. At the 12:00 minute mark in the third Cobourg is still struggling to get past Scottie and the lads. Foiled again!! They don't give up however and finally at the 7:30 mark, Scott's shut out is history as they manage to find an opening and score. We find ourselves short-handed in the dying minutes of the game. As a last ditch attempt, the Cobourg coach pulls his goalie in favour of an extra attacker but even with six skaters our Panthers can't be beat and Matt Hobbs ends the game with an empty netter for a final 4-1 victory. Thanks for a good game guys. Don't miss the action Monday nights right after the Bantam games when the Port Perry Panthers take to the ice! Techstar wins 2 at tournament On Saturday, Dec. 3rd, the Techstars went to Bancroft for a tournament. In their first game they faced off against Bracebridge. The Techstars were short a couple of players do to injuries and just didn't seem tg be awake yet. The result was a 5-1 loss. Goalie Rob Sim stopped shot after on many occasions to keep the score respectable. The Techstars goal Wis scored on a one-timer by Ryan Puckrin on a nice pass by Scott Sanderson. In game two they were up against Whitby. The 2-1 victory may sound like a defensive battle, but it wasn't quite like that. The offensive aspect of the Techstars game didn't seem to be there as their passes were off. The Whitby goalie was for the most part untested. At the same time, Techstar goalie Doug Short made many great saves to ensure the Techstar win. The goals were scored by Scott Sanderson and Dillian Weber. Assisting were Weber and Adam NO BULL PRICING! "Bullet" Brain. For game three of the day their opponent was Prince Edward County. The Techstars were back on their game for this one and came away with a 5-2 win, despite a slow start. Prince Edward County drew first blood under 30 seconds into the game. The Techstars got that one back a few minutes later on an unassisted goal by Dave Gainey. The Techstars took the lead when Ryan Puckrin gave the puck to Dan Lyons who skated past everyone and put one in the net. Prince Edward County tied it up a minute later. Techstar goalie Doug Short then closed the cage for the night making numerous great saves. Early in the second, Scott Sanderson scored to make it 3-2 assisted by Dave Kaminga and Glen McCready. Scott Harper scored next on a beautiful coast to coast goal to make it 4-2. JP Copeland rounded out the scoring assisted by "Bullet".
