Yes, it was the Monsma Chargers who pulled up into first place along side of the Harrison Blazers. The Pineridge Phantoms remained 2 points back in second place! Well, no problem because after a full slate of games this weekend, the "top three" remain in the same spots in the Scugog Hockey League! Things should be interesting when the Harrison Blazers go head to head with the Monsma Chargers on Dec. 11th. Game 1 saw the J&D Hawks take advantage of a "short" Pizza Delight Devils squad and skate to a 4-1 victory. Apparently, a certain Saturday night "reunion" kept the Devil's players in bed for this early match! Peter Lane scored twice for the Hawks with Ed Olsen and Doug Suppelsa picking up singles. Both Ritchie Lefort and Captain Callery notched two assists while singles went to Carl Durward, Keijo Kinnunen Petites nip Whitby for 5th straight win The Shepstone Haulage Petites travelled to Whitby Nov. 19th to play their sixth game of the season. Second period was exciting with Port determined to turn up the heat. Our defence played solidly with particular good effort by Shannon. Whitby played a physical, hard checking style which at times kept our girls off balance. Several more good saves by Jill - Whitby was determined to come back. Whitby scored due to a pile up in front of the net resulting in the play being in front of Jill for too long. The score was then 2-2, - Alaina B. had a break away on a line change but Whitby's goalie stopped the shot - not long after she did score on a good effort, 3-2 Port. Rhea had another near miss. Whitby pulled their goalie with less than a minute to go in the game to try and tie things up but were held off by a strong team effort by Port who controlled the ring for the last 20 seconds just failing to score in the empty net. Final score Port 3 - Whitby 2. Our team is starting to come together through hard work and the improving skills of Lisa, Kelly and Ashley who are first year players. This was our 5th win in a row! Game 3 saw the Van World Sharks give the Monsma Chargers a real battle! With the Sharks playing great hockey, they took a single goal lead into the final frame. However, a small defensive lapse coupled with a determined Charger attack, lifted the Monsma crew tga 5-3 victory and another week tied for first place in the standings! Bill Bridge led the Chargers with a "hat trick" and an assist for a big "4 point day". Paul Van Camp and Rick Olaisen had the other goals. Assists saw Jim Duncan and Dave Thompson with a pair each, and singles to Olaisen, Tony Oxley, Brad Hurst and Duane Bronson. For the Sharks it was Steve Connors with a pair of counters and a single by Jay Adam. Randy Prosser had a pair of assists with Jay Adam, Scott Davis and Greg Fitzgerald having single helpers. Game 4 saw the Harrison Blazers keep their undefeated season intact with a 5-4 victory over the Taylor Aces. This game is usually called the "Battle of the Fuel Crews" and Sunday's match proved to be a good one! The Taylor Team really put the heat on the Blazers and forced Blazer goalie Ken Harman to make some tough saves to keep his team tied for first place. Blazer forward John Harman led the way with 2 goals and an assist, while team sponsor Dave Harrison had 3 assists to help the cause. Steve Churchill, Larry Jackson and Dale Bronson had single tallies each. Single assists to round out the Blazer attack went to Jim Park, Marvin Stevenson, Richard Sakanashi and Darcy Milligan. For the Aces, Todd Wilbur had a strong game with 2 goals. Dave Brownson and John Kotarba had single goals as well. Ken Little had a pair of assists while Kotarba, Wayne Norton and "Legend" Sheehey were credited with single helpers. Game 5 proved to be another exciting game as the Crandell's Gamblers took on the Fitzgerald Clippers. The Gamblers had only a few crew members for this one, buf each player gave a superb effort ant the Crandell's boys edged the Clippers 4-3. Dave Bourgeois and Bryan Norton led the Gamblers with a pair of goals and an assist. Al Sibbald matched him with 3 assists, while Tom Patton had the other single counter for the Fitzgerald squad. With one week remaining to complete the November schedule, week 13 in the SHL may prove to be good luck for those in need of a win! However, what does that mean for the leaders?
