Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, November 15,1994 --33 + Overhead Doors strike for three straight On Sat. Nov. 12, the Overhead Doors PeeWee 'B' team hosted the ever aggressive Uxbridge squad. The game proved to be a penalty-marred event and despite playing shorthanded for a lot of the game, the Port Perry team managed to come out with a 2 to 1 victory. The first two periods of the game had both teams getting some good chances but the game remained scoreless through two. Early in the first, with Port on a Power play, good hustle was displayed by the line of Joel VanCamp, Joel Phoenix and Russ Brown. On the 'same Power Play, the Uxbridge goalie stopped a hard screened wrist shot from Chris Jones, on the point. Ryan Fraser, who got the win in net, was called upon to make some good saves of his own. Sin bin trips prove On Sunday, November 6, the Midget Canadian Tire Islanders travelled to Minden for a 6:00 p.m. start This rink was so far away, the Port players could have packed a picnic lunch for the trip. Perhaps suffering from fatigue or "car lag", the Islanders went through the motions and madenothing happen, losing to the tune of 5-0 Right off the bat it was evident, that the referees were calling In the second period our 'B's had to play shorthanded 5 on 3 and Scott Cunningham, David Justynski, Reid McTaggart and Chris Jones helped kill off the penalty well. In the third period, the scorers on both teams finally managed to break the ice. Right at the top of the third, Uxbridge went up 1-0 on a Power Play. But the Port boys didn't let down and just a minute later Kam Cooper and Troy Hazelton went in on a 2-on- 0 and Kam shot at the goalie. Scott Brownson, trailing the play, flipped in the rebound Port Perry pulihed the score to 2-1 two minutes later, when Matt MacMaster came out of the gorner with the puck and the rebfund from his shot was flipped over the goalie by John Baeon. An assist also went to-Johfl Burnett this game close, giving no lenience what so ever, 'especially to the Port squad. The Islanders spent 32 minutes in the box, including two five minute majors issued to Matt Brown and Greg Thompson for pasting Minden players to the boards like flies...slightly from behind. Matt and Greg watched the rest of the game from the stands, where they fell victim to some cheap shots courtesy of the Minden The "Doors" continued to work hard to preserve their lead and managed to kill off a 5 minute major late in the third to take the win. The, Coaches' choice for Best Effort went to Scott Cunningham. On Sun. Nov. 13, the Oshawa Bruins came to town to take on our PeeWee 'B's. The "Overhead Doors" boys were equal to the task and skated to a relatively easy 6-4 win over the Bruins Pu The first two were all Port Perry with.QehaWa getting very few chance, Right from the opening face-6ff, Port Perry challenged the Oshawa netminder. The goalie was forced to make a big save on a Scott Brownson partial breakaway. The ensuing goal mouth scramble allowed Kam Cooper to score on an assist from David Justynski. Shortly after Matt MacMaster stickhandled his way into the slot and Kam Cooper again was there to tip in the rebound from Matt's shot. This put Port Perry up 2-0 The second period #aw our "B"s continue to press. Troy Hazelton and Joel VanCanmip both had good chances early. Later in the second, Port went ahead 3-0 on a Power Play goal by "Best Effort" player Kam Cooper. A natural Hat Trick!! David Justynski was credited with the assist. Uxbridge did manage a goal shortly after on a shot off the defenseman, but Port scored another one at the end of the second to stay ahead by three at 4.1. Scott Cunningham scored from a sharp angle wrist shot with an assist from John Bacon In the third period, the Bruins pulled their socks up a bit and goalie Chris Thompson was tested numerous times - in particular on a breakaway by Oshawa. Matt MacMaster scored our fifth goal on a wraparound, The assist went to Murphy Irvine. This gave Port a 5-1 lead but'the Bruins were not finished yet as they scored two quick goals one on a Power Play to pull within 2. However, John Bacon widened the led again to 6-3 on a goal mouth scramble goal. Assists to Grant Hooker and Troy Hazelton. Uxbridge scored the final goal to end the game at 6-4 for Port Perry. We are not trying to make any excuses, but the ref's showed just a little (haha) favouratism for the home team in this game, dishing out 14 minutes in penalties to the Novice A squad loses to Uxbridge The Pearce Auctioneers Novice Squad met Uxbridge last Friday night for the first time in the series. The first period saw end to end action as our defencemen of Justin Koury, Gordon Smith, Justin Shinn and Ryan Hnatko kept our end clear and the, Uxbridge team working hard. Curtis Wagar made some excellent saves and cleared the crease. The second period saw our forwards of Kevin Robins, Teddy Howarth, Joey Lane, Jordan Froats, Chet Martin, Pat Lewis, Lucas Fraser, Tyler Weisflock try to put some past the Uxbridge net with no luck, With only a minute left in the second period, Uxbridge scored. In the third period Scott Honey worked hard in net, but Uxbridge turned up the heat to score two more markers. Legionaires and just 6 minutes to the Bruins. The first period was a fast one with both teams flying from one end to the other. Despite the efforts of both our goalies and the entire team Port would not get on the scoreboard today. Bodies were flying everywhere but the Bruins would not let the pressure off for a minute.
