Chiropodist Valerie Balogh will be operating a new foot care clinic at Port Perry Hospital one day a month. She has been operating the clinic at Whitby General for the past seven years. Chiropody is hardly a household word, so do not feel bad if you haven't heard of it. It can become quite a familiar word for those who have aching feet needing footcare. The service is a satellite clinic of Oshawa General Hospital who also provides foot care clinics at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital, and Whitby General * Hospital. In these cases the Chiropodist will work in consultation with the patient's physician or specialist as required. Some of the Chiropodist's treatment may include padding and strappings of felts and foams. It may also include molds and casts for construction of orthotic inlays or devices worn on the foot, Simple advice and eduction on footcare, shoewear, sock wear, nail cutting, footcare for infants, athletes or elderly, are all matters of interest to chiropodial methods in which the practitioner has been trained. These methods include the treatment of common foot disorders arising from general or systemic diseases (ie. diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis). Chiropody is broadly based on the medical sciences,and this equips the Chiropodist to provide a comprehensive + service of diagnosis and treatment from the young to old. A variety of foot conditions may include such deformities as hammer toes, mallet toes and bunions, infections such as viral warts, bacteria and fungus, pressure lesions such as corns and callouses, a variety of toenail problems and many others. . the Chirop Due to limited service, we are not able to offer routine nail care. Port Perry was on the board early with a nice goal by Nick Pelyk. Port Perry was checking hard and keeping control of the puck, but Whitby's goalie 'stopped Port from putting any *more points on the board. In the first period Chris Monsma was making some outstanding saves in net but Whitby kept the pressure on him and scored their first goal at 9:27 of the second period Port suffered a few penalties in the second period and Whitby kept digging getting their second and third goal in the space of 3 minutes. * Mike MacLennan came into net in the second half of the second period. At 8:42 of the third period Greg Bruton let go one heck of a slapshot that sailed past the Whitby goalie so fast he never moved a muscle. Nick Pelyk took a heavy shot but the Whitby goalie stopped him cold. Mike MacLennan made some nice saves and kept Whitby off the score board Despite solid hustling from Chad Lance and Braden Tarbotton that Whitby goalie would not give us a break Final score Whitby 3, Port Perry 2. On Friday, Oct. 21, the Legionnaires travelled to Cobourg for their first match-up of the season. The first period saw lots of end to end action but ended goal-free and penalty-free. At 12:28 of the second period. Cobourg found the mark. At 10:59, Brad Johnston Bed it up on a slapshot from the point, assisted by Geg Bruton. Nick Pelyk was serving up lots of trouble around the net but Cobourg held their ground. Port found themselves short-handed at the 9:20 mark of the 2nd but did a good job of penalty killing By the end of the 2nd, play had slowed somewhat and Port began to take control of the action. Legionaires had lots of good chances but failed to put one home. Both, Chris Monsma and Mike MacLennan, stood on their heads to keep the puck out of their net. Chris made an outstanding foot save and Mike literally used his head! With 1:14 left in the 2nd, Cobourg scored and added another with :43 seconds left on the clock. Heading into the 3rd, with the score 3 - 1 Cobourg, Port lost control of the puck in their own end and Cobourg chalked up another goal. Port had much more control of the game and found the nes with :43 seconds left in the game. Greg Bruton scored, unassisted. Final Score of the game was Cobourg 4 Port Perry 2. Penalty minutes were even at 6. Skating programs at the Scugog Arena As winter approaches, watch for programs available at the Scugog Arena. 'There are activities to please everyone. Parent & Tot skate allows parents to teach their children to skate at their own pace. The skate runs - Mondays 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm and Wednesdays 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Cost $2.00/adult and children free or season pass is $20.00. This program will also be offered at a new day and time. Jown the fun Thursday afternoons 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Driver's TAKE CARE! There are children out on Hallowe'en night . Hort cut through alleyways, lanewavs or abandoned homes Stay on the sidewalks . For extra safety, organize a Hallowe'en party at home .
