Both Eagles and Gamblers have lost once in the double knockout round robin series in the Oshawa City and District League playdowns, Game time Thursday night at Greenbank park is 8:15, and this should be a real barn burner between these traditional Scugog rivals who have had some great encounters in the past. Fair Board makes new by 4 i % A Proud moment at the Rair Laura Phoenix of Greenbank with her champion 4-H calf, Eimfio Broker Lee Alexis, which took the first place ribbon in the Port Perry Dairy Show held at the Port Perry Fair over the Labour Day weekend. It was obylously a proud moment for Laura. The weather was perfect for the Fair this year and that brought out large crowds of people on all three days. They enjoyed the mflay exhibits and special attractions. There was also some serious politics In the air at the Fair this year, as the Fair Board went public with its complaints*about a proposed new lease for the grounds. See story at top, and see inside the Citizen for more great Fair photos. 16439; SSUES [n election Fair charged the "fairgrounds is in danger" over the lack of a new leas between the Township and Port Perry Fair Board. "I am very disappointed in the Fair Board (for putting up the sign) The wording is so very mis- leading, it is just not true," said the Mayor in an interview Monday. But Fair Board president Paul Christie defended both the sign and the wording. ~ "We (the Fair Board) are trying to get the public's attention. We are in danger of losing this land," he said in an interview at "the Fair. Mayor Hall said what upset him and other members of council was the statement on the sign which read "many councillors do not want to renew our lease. They want to sell this parkland for an undisclosed development." He vehemently denied there is any kind of development in the . works for the 24-acre fairgrounds at Old Simcoe Road and Reach Road in Port Perry. "Absolutely not true. Council has never discussed selling the fairgrounds. There has never been any developer show any interest in this land," he stated angrily.
