INSURANCE BROKERS LIMITED 193 QUEEN STREET, PORT PERRY ONTARIO LIL 1B9 ws 985-7306 All Types of Insurance a, Sled Smart team works to cut snowmobile deaths Snowmobiling is the recreational activity with the second highest number of fatalities per year (second to boating). In hopes of reducing the accident toll, the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is reaching out to all snowmobilers this winter with a safety initiative called Sled Smart. A two-person Sled Smart Education Team (Lesley Andrews and Stephen Galang) is currently travelling throughout Ontario, appearing at high schools, snowmobile clubs and special events, encouraging people to Ride Safe, Ride Sober. In past years, alcohol has been a contributing factor in 75% of all snowmobiling accidents, says John Blaicher, OFSC Marketing Director. People who've been drinking should no more operate = snowmobile than they should get behind the wheel of a car. According to information the OFSC receives from Provincial Police, there were 12 fatal Nov. 12, 1993 and Jan. 9, 1994. Speed and thin ice were a factor in all of the accidents, and five were alcohol related. All of the victims were male. None of the accidents took place on an OFSC marked trail, says Blaicher. And only four of the people killed held an OFSC Trail Pass. Clearly, information about safe snowmobiling needs to be spread well beyond our own members. We are making it our responsibility to alert as many snowmobilers as possible to the potential dangers, whether they're OFSC members or not. As a new sponsor of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, Nissan Canada Inc. also believes that the Ride Safe, Ride Sober campaign needs to reach the widest possible audience. That's why, this winter, the Sled Smart team will be travelling Ontario in a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder. "Actively promoting the responsible use of both vehicles and natural resources is a commitment that Nissan shares wholeheartedly with the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs," says Richard Marcotte, Director, Eastern Region, Nissan Canada Inc. "We applaud their aggressive approach to safety education, and are happy to help them by making this Pathfinder available for their use." = your sweetheart with =) TUNE £7 / Monday, February 14th STABLES at GREYSTONE has the perfect setting for your amorous evening. a romantic dinner on : 4 VILLAGE STITCHERY Alterations & Repairs To All Types of Clothing 1621 KING ST., PRINCE ALBERT Barb Mcintyre | 985-2269 Own a business?
