--is shine as Legionaires bring home a tournament win On January 8, the Legionaires travelled to Uxbridge for their first game of the Uxbridge tournament against the Oshawa LNHL Blackhawks. There was to be a lot of action in this game, Wyatt Park found his number early in the game and hit #12 who coughed up the puck to Adam Hobbs, who in turn was robbed by the Oshawa goalie. Next Scott Jeffrey had a try at. hitting and grabbing the puck, but the goalie was hot on this attempt as well. Finally Casey vanSchagen carried the puck from his own end, found Ian Parliamentiwith a' perfect pass and.lan made no mistake in burying the Buck behind the Qshawa goalig, Oshawa was kept off the scoreboard for the rest of the period with a few dazzling saves by Dann Lee and a nice hip check by Jeff Ashton to break up an Oshawa 2 on 1. The second period brought more of the same, good saves by Dann and his defencemen and almost goals by Casey, Adam H., "lan, Jeff, Danny Lyons, Glenn McCready and Adam Jones. The third period offered more of the nail-biting hockey with Oshawa finally scoring: at the six minute " mark. Our defence continued to be superb for the rest of the period while time and time again our attempts to score were foiled. Regulation time ended with the score tied one all. Overtime started with four skaters and a goalie and Oshawa dominating the play, with three aside, Dann saved our bacon again and then there were two. Adam J. almost scored on a wrap around. Then with one skater per team, Seth Gray was hauled down by the goalie and awarded a penalty shot. Seth deked to the stick side and appeared to beat the netminder but the puck slid wide. Oshawa then hit our goal post but still no goal. Finally with three skaters per team and no goalies, Casey made a check at our blue line and ° passed the puck to Scott who found the mark with a nice backhand. Port wins an exciting game 2-1, Our second game was against Cobourg. Thirty seconds into the game "speedball" Seth took the puck right through the defence and found the mark. Less than a minute later, Adam J. assisted by Adam H. and Jeff, notched another, putting the Legionaires ahead 2- 0. In the second our penalty killers had a bit of work and did a great job. In the third, Adam J. netted his second of the game unassisted. Our fourth and last goal was poked in by Jon Froats, assisted by Derek Tindall and Seth. The final score was 4-0, with Shane Savage getting a well-deserved shutout. In the championship game we found ourselves up against the host team, Uxbridge. Port opened the scoring early with an unassisted goal by Scott. The rest of the period featured lots of great chances and great saves, but no more goals, ; At 6:39 of the second Adam J. with another great unexplainable move, fooled the Uxbridge goalie to make the score 2-0 for the Legionaires. In the third, Dann again made some great saves and Troy Campbell was robbed by the Uxbridge goalie. The fin] score was 2-0 for Port giving us the Uxbridge Tournament Championship. Our goalies ( a shutout for both Shane and Dann) and the defencemen (Jeff, Casey, Glenn and Wyatt) did a super job in this tournament allowing only one goal to be scored against us in three games.
