mp" Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, November 16,1993 --33 + No problem for those Pee Wee The Scugog Overhead Doors Pee Wee "B" club went on one of its many road trips, this time to take on the "Rival" Uxbridge team. Uxbridge came out fast and ready to play hockey and kind of surprised at the speedy Port Perry boys. For the first few minutes Uxbridge had things pretty much their own way, giving the Port Perry goaltender alot to think about. Shot after shot was launched toward the Port Perry net and the Port goalie coming up big holding his team in there until the alarm went off and Port started to play hockey. The line of Chris Jones and Scott Harper on defence and Blayne Kinnunen, David Gainey and Nick Pelyk had Uxbridge hemmed in their own zone and when Uxbridge tried to clear it out, it went right to David (Dinger) Gainey whd smacked the loose puck into the back of the Uxbridge goal past a surprised goaltender to give Port the early lead 1-0. The first period saw both teams playing some pretty nice hockey with both teams having some good times and some bad times With 40 ticks left on the clock, Uxbridge scored on a goalmouth scramble to tie the game at 1-1. As the period ended Uxbridge outshot Port 7-4. The second period was a see- saw affair for awhile with both goalies getting a tune-up with lots of shots coming their way. At 9:38 Scott Sanderson snatched the puck away from Uxbridge at Blayne Kinnunen and as soon as the lone defenceman moved to cover Blayne, he put a pretty pass back to David Gainey and it was a 2-1 hockey game. The Uxbridge attack slowed down a bit after Nick Pelyk Port took it the other way on a pretty give and go play from Blayne Kinnunen to David Gainey and it's 5-1 as David completes his "hat trick". (3 bucks Grandpa) Porf, outshot Uxbridge 14-13 in the d. Port came out fast in the third period after there was no flood and went right to their skating game. Port's third period usually means turning things up a crank and a half and forcing the other team opty "Catch the puck". At 10:26 David Gainey was in handed out a couple of good hits = all alone on a clear cut in the Uxbridge zone causing Uxbridge to make some gntimely turnovers in theirown zone, giving Port senfe good scoring chances. At 6:05, Justin (Cat) Sheeley stole the puck at centre ice and took it in on a pretty two way passing play as Travis fired it past the sprawling goalie to give Port a commanding 3-1 lead. Less than two minutes later, Nick Pelyk took control of the puck deep in Uxbridge Country and with a good fake slammed it deep in the Uxbridge net for a 4- 1 lead. Uxbridge got their rushes going again and kept the Port Perry goalie but jt was all for not as the Port Perry goalie was solid in the net With the period winding down and Uxbridge unable to score, First on the line in Pee Wee HL The first game of the Pee Wee House League last Saturday was between Big V and Emiel's. This game would determine who would take over first place in the standings. There was no scoring in the first period as Ryan Fraser for, Big V and Jon Chambers for Emiel's made some great saves in the nets. Wade Ritchie got things started for the Big V team as he banged aWly at the puck in front of the net to score unassisted Chris Orr scored on a pass from Alex Wordley then Alex and Chris set up Ken Ellis who one- timed it into the net. Wade made a nice pass to Steve Martin in front of the net to score with Ryan Hawkins picking up the other assist on this one Emiel's finally got on the scoreboard late in the third on a picture perfect pass by David Bonser to Tim Wray who put it between the goaltender's legs Big V would not give up and scored another goal with less than a minute to go. Goaltender Ryan Fraser dumped the puck into the corner to Jericho Baron who passed it up to Alex to put it into the net. Jordan McKay played well in front of the net for Big V spoiling some possible scoring chances and Nick Ostafichuk also played well on defense as he made some great passes to clear the puck out of the zone Emiel's had a strong game from Sean Fletcher who gets the "best hustler" award and Chad Lance who did well digging the puck out along the boards. Mark Sauter also had a strong game on forward. Tom Boyd played very well on defense stifling a few scoring opportunities in front of the net The second game of the day was between Scala and Larocque and this was full of great end to end rushes by both teams. Scott Cunningham had a hat trick as well as picking up 2 assists for the Scala team. Tyler Wooten picked up 2 goals and an assist while Troy Hazleton picked up the other goal for the green machine Tom Baker, Murphy Irvine, Jeremy Hall and Jeremy Pare picked up the other assists. John Bacon played well on forward as he led many rushes and made some excellent passes Russell Brown gets the "good hustler" award for the Scala team. The defensive core of the 2 Jeremy's and Matt Caldwell and Murphy Irvine played very well and stopped some good shots in front of the goaltender Chris Thompson Chris played very well in net stopping the close range shots that were fired at him by Greg Bruton and Joel Phoenix of the Larocque team. Peter McKitterick scored on a nice pass from Greg Bruton for the Larocque boys to get things started for them. Greg then scored from Peter and David Crouter Other goals for the Larocque team went to Adam Brain from Ben Stephenson and Gerard Painter and to Joel Phoenix who scored unassisted. John Sanders played very well for the Larocque team and the "good hustler" award goes to Ben Stephenson for his strong performance. Jamie Clarke played goal for the first time and did a very fine job. He stumped Tyler Wooten on a sure goal early in the game to let everyone know he was setious about doing a good job. Final score of the close one was 6-4 for Scala breakaway from centre and scored his 4th of the game as he slid the puck under the Uxbridge goaltender to extend Port's lead to 7-1, Jeff Neal and Ryan MacQuade had a lot to do with Uxbridge's rushes being nullified time after time. The forwards with Jeff and Ryan (Brad Johnston, Deryk Campbell and Ryan Hawkins) were doing some nice forechecking and keeping the Uxbridge attack off balance. Ryan Moynes and Aaron Chambers, Chris Jones and Scott Harper also deserve a pat on the back for their defencive work out there, keeping Uxbridge off the scoresheet. 'Doors' Uxbridge got one back with 2:42 left in the game to narrow the gap to 7-2. There wasn't any scoring in the third period as the horn sounded to end the game as Port Perry defeated Uxbridge by a score of 7-2. Port out-shot Uxbridge 17-6 in the third period. Playing in goal for Port Perry was Michael MacLennan. Honourable mention for "good hustle" goes to Deryk Campbell and Ryan Hawkins. Scott Harper gets the nod for Good Defencive Effort.
