Phil McBride of Galley Fish and Sea Food, and Emiel Kroonenberg of Emiel's Place say this inflexibility is discouraging in their efforts to recycle waste from their eating establishments on Queen Street. Last Friday morning, they say a load of cardboard from their restaurants was turned away at the Transfer Station on Durham Road 8. - Mr. McBride said he realizes that sending the full trailer of cardboard to the Transfer Station was against the rules. "I told (my employee) to ask (the attendant) very nicely if the full load of cardboard could Pe RED RIBBON DONUTS & CAFE Open 7 Days a Week! But what really got Mr. McBride's ire is that the attendant would not allow half the load to be dumped. "We were told we would have to take the load back to the restaurant, un-load half of it and then bring it (the half- load) to the transfer station," he told the Citizen. "I know rules are rules," he went on. "But all I would like is a little common sense and discretion. Why make us bring the load of cardboard back to un-load half? Why could we not un-load half (at the station) and take the rest (to the station) another day?" Mr. McBride and Mr. Kroonbenberg have been co- operating on recycling efforts Lr many years. They recycle Book Early Tale RUT-R F:1) the GST! all non-refundable containers and cans, and send kitchen scraps to a local farmer to be mixed with feed for hogs. They have a small covered trailer where cardboard boxes (broken down) are stored until the trailer is half full and then the load is taken to the Transfer Station. Mr. McBride said his employee was busy last week and unable to make the trip to the station before the trailer was filled with cardboard. In making their feelings known to the Citizen, both Mr. McBride and Mr. Kroonenberg said they are not asking to break the regulations, but there are times when a bit of flexibility would be wel "A little common sense would go a long way for us to keep up our recycling efforts," they said.
