' Cartwright HS grads Cartwright High School Commencement Exercises were held Saturday evening. Students were recognized who have obtained a minimum of six OAC's. Ontario Scholars were Nicole Leach, Kim Popowich, Tom Rowett, Kyle Russell and Jill Van Camp. Obituary - - Lillian "Mary" Payne Lillian "Mary" Payne passed away on October 24. Funeral services were held in the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry, Oétober 27 with the Rev Bonnie Kelly officiating. Mary was born in Chicago April 19, 1929 and moved to Canada at the age of five with her parents Clifford and Minnie Harper. They purchased a farm on Harper Road (then Reach Township) where Mary was raised along with her younger sister Elsie. She agjended the Bethel Sched! until grade 8 when she was forced to leave school to help look, after the farm when her father was hurt She later moved to Oshawa to work and met her future husband Herb Payne. They were married Jan. 26, 1952 and together raised five children, Ronald, Richard, Randy, Bonnie and Timothy. After her last child was born, Mary went back to work at Dominion Auto in Uxbridge She worked 15 years and then was forced to retire on disability due to her illness. But she never gave up. She and her husband continued to operate a chip truck. In later years, they were able to do some travelling, east, west and south, but not north, although Mary had always wanted to see Alaska. . This past Januar; ry and Herb celebraté®# their 40th weddinganiversary with a surprife party hosted by the children. And they were able to go to Florida for six weeks. Mary always enjoyed auction sales and yard sales. She had & wonderful sense of hu and always seemed to find the time for a good jeKe and a chat. During the last four months th which she was hospitalized, she never once gave up hope that she would return home until her illness got the best of her on October 24. Mary is sadly missed by her family and many friends. Just after 4:30 in the morning a male person entered the V Plus Gas Bar at 1402 King Street West. (north east corner of King St. W. and Townline Road). The suspect was armed with a single barrelled shotgun and confronted the two employees and also a customer. The employees were ordered to turn over all of the money from the till. The till was opened and the suspect reached over the counter and removed the cash with his left hand. The robber shoved the bills into his pocket all the while pointing the shotgun at the victims. Before leaving the business the suspect pointed the weapon at the customer and'demanded his money. The suspect asked for a carton of Players Filter and then was seen running southbound across King Street towards the Bi-Way Store Fortunately no one was injured during this robbery and only a small amount of cash stolen. Suspect is described as male, white, 5'7", 130 Ibs., 19-20 yrs. old, black straight shoulder length hair, clean shaven with a thin mustache, wearing a black ball cap, tan cloth type bomber jacket,, faded blue jeans, blue T-shirt and running shoes. A re-enactment of this crime will be shown on CITY TV, Channel 57, Cable 7, on Thursday November 19th during the 6 and 10PM news It will also be shown on CHEX TV in Peterborough and CKVR in Barrie on Friday, November 20th, again during the news. Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1000 for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Police need the public's help in finding those responsible for this offence or any other criminal offence.
