Optimist Club to hold Xmas party for kids Housing appointments Whitney Cohoon of S8cugog Township is one of three new members of the Durham Regional Housing Authority. Mrs. Cohoon operates a large farm just north of Port Perry. The other two appointees announced last week by Ontario Housing Minister Evelyn Gigantes are June Smith, a retired teacher from Bowmanville and Bing Wong, a development consultant from Whitby. The Durham Housing Authority manages more than 1200 OHC assisted units in every community in the Region. In making the appointments last week, the Housing Minister said "interest in the community is an important factor in selecting authority members. "The Housing Authority in Durham provides accommodation for seniors, families, single people, couples without children and persons with disabilities. The Sunrise Optimist Club of Port Perry will host their first Children's Christmas Party. The party is to be held on Saturday December 12, at the Latcham Centre on Queen St. East (by the water) for children aged 3 to 10 years. Games and music will start at 11 a.m. followed by pizza and pop for lunch. A visit by Santa Claus himself is expected shortly following lunch to hand out presents to all the boys and girls. The program is expected Optimist Vice President Sue Dalby says, "This is the first time we have had a chance to hold a £hristmas party and the members of the club are very excited about this event. We asked for support and donations from several businesses in the community and everybody has been very supportive of the program." Registration is only $5 and is limited to 80 children. After that, there would be an interview and an inspection of my facilities, inside and outside. If | passed everything and they were satisfied with our position in the community, | would be offered membership in OGR. Naturally | was nervous, because every funeral home that is hed is not | accepted their offer b | am i d in improving mysel as a Funeral Director and as a person who cares about my community. | feel this organization will help me grow as a care- giver. : In August, | was d with an ion to b a member of OGR. There are members all over the world, and every eighteen months, attendance is required at one of the educational seminars that OGR puts on. OGR wants active participation in their discussions and seminars - not people who say they belong to an organization and don't get involved There are very high standards in OGR and they are very determined, as | am, in maintaining them.
