XL Eagles trail Trenton by one The Port Perry XL Eagles have some work ahead of them if they want to advance to the Ontario Intermediate C fastball championship tournament later this month. The Eagles are down one game to none in their semi final series with Trenton and must now win two straight to keep their OASA hopes alive. In the series opener Sunday night in Trenton, Eagles came home on the short end of a 3-1 score after running into some hot pitching. They took advantage of a Trenton miscue early in the game, but surrendered two runs in the 6th inning on a dropped routine fly ball in the field with two on and two out. Eagles could muster just a pair of hits in this one, and on the other side, XL starter John Annis was almost as stingy, giving up just three hits in seven innings. Game two in the best of three affair will be in Port Perry this Thursday evening (south diamond) at 9:00 PM. Trenton won the coin toss, so game three if needed, will be held in Trenton. Eagles are the all-Ontario Intermediate C defending champions. This is a team that seems to come up with its best performance when the backs are to the wall and the players would like nothing more than a chance to defend their provincial crown later this month.
