Council wants barriers put up at 7A causeway Scugog Township council wants the provincial highways department to put up barriers to keep vehicles away from the 7A causeway just east of Port Perry. Council hopes that if people can't park their vehicles along the causeway, it will cut down on the amount of trash being tossed in this area. Council has also asked the highways department to place trash containers at the causeway which is a popular spot for anglers in the summer months. But three councillors saw first- hand Sunday afternoon just how much trash litters the side of road and the shoreline of the lake. Marilyn Pearce, Ken Gadsden and David Dietlein joined about 20 other volunteers in a "causeway clean-up." More than 80 garbage bags were filled with junk and lit- ter that ranged from plastic cups to beer cans to disposable diapers. "Enough is enough," said councillor Pearce Monday. By asking for a no parking rule and some trash containers, the mes- sage has to go out to people "that this is your lake, don't litter." Her suggestion for a ban on parking between the highway and the lake got unanimous support from Scugog council Monday. Durham MP Ross Stevenson (third from left) was on hand Saturday to take In the 'Proud to be Canddlian Tour' at the Port Perry lakefront.
