Durham Police said Jeanne Alexander was westbound on Victoria Street jn Whitby when she lost control on wet clay that had spilled from a truck. Police said she swerved into the eastbound traffic striking a car driven by Ronald Livingstoof Oshawa. The victim died Tater at Whitby Hospital. The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries. An investigation by the Regional Police is continuing. Port Perry Lions Club The, importance of recruiting new members was one of the main topics on the agenda as the Port Perry Lions club held its November meeting. After the meeting was opened by President Gord Lee, the topic of recruitment was addressed by Gunter Lauterbacki¥as well as the need for volunteer labour for Camp Kirk which is a top priority for the club. Treasurer Bill, Kendry said the club is in a position to honour its financial commitments to the Community Memorial Hospital again this year, . And letters were received from three high school students offering their thanks and appreciation for the Lions Club awards they received at Aommencement. ~The November 101 winners of $50 were Eleanor Golding and Paui Kendry, and $25. winners were Guy Latreille, Ed Smale and Paul Milligan. Roulette winners were Gord Geer, and Roger Stevens and the 50/50 winners were Dave Leduc and Gord Geer. Post filled Ajax Mayor Jim Wilty has been elected chairman of the Durham Region Police Service Board. (Commission) Witty was appointed to the Service by Durham council, and he takes over the chair from former Whitby Mayor Beb_Auerslcy who held the post since 1983. Other members of the Polige Board include Regional chairman Gary Herrema, Allan McPhail and Sarah MacDonald. There is currently one vacancy on the board and that will be filled by an appointment from the provincial government.
