SPORTS SHORTS Whitby 'wrecks' Motors' game" Atom House League Whitby Auto Wreckers 12, Gord Lewis Motors 4. On December 14, Whitby Auto Wreckers defeated Gord Lewis Motors 12 to 4 in a game that featured end to end action and numerous Scoring opportuni- tics for both teams. Joel Van Camp opened the scoring for the "Wreckers" at 8:17, assisted by Ken Ellis. Blaine Kinnunen then scored at 4:57 unassisted, and Ken Ellis made it 3-0 for the "Wreckers" unassisted, at 3:47 to end the first period. In a'wide open second period, seven goals were scored. At 14:19 Jordan MeKay scored for Gqgd Lewis assisted by Russ Brown. At 9:59 Blaine Kinnunen scored for the "Wreckers" on the wrap around assisted by Jamie Clarke and Jon Sanders. Gord Lewis pressed on the power play and Daniel Lee scored at 6:29 assisted by Joel PI ix. This twosome again connected four- teen seconds later as Daniel Lee closed the gap to one goal on a nice play from Joel Phoenix. Alex Upton for the Wreckers took a pass from P.J. Paffrath went the length of the ice and passed to Jon Sanders who one timed it to score at 5:02. Blaine Kinnunen completed the second period scoring two for the Wreckers on a solo effort at 4:31, and then finding the net at :02 with a blistering slapshot, assist- ed by Joel VanCamp and Steven Nagy. The third period again fea- tured wide open hockey as Alex Upton scored for the "Wreckers" at 10:22, unassisted, followed by his teammate Steven Nagy who tucked in a rebound from Michael MacLennan and went end to end to set up the goal. Gord Lewis' next goal was scored by Joel Phoenix in.a goal mouth scramble at 7:58 from Daniel Lee and Jamie Page. "Wreckers" completed the third period with three quick goals; Steven Nagy scored at 2:43 from Michael MacLennan, Jamie Clarke on a power play at 1:16 from Alex Upton and finally Blaine Kinnunen from Joel Van Camp just before the buzzer. Goalkeepers Wade Ritchie for the "Wreckers" and Chris Thompson for Gord Lewis were forced to make many good saves in this wide open Atom House League game. Ivory Forest Homes Junior Ringette Sunday, December 15 the Ivory Forest Juniors lengthened their undefeated streak in league play by defeating the Ajax Juniors by a score of 9-0. Tracy Pelow and Sarah Coyne shared the duties between the pipes thereby carning themselves a shutout. From the sound of the opening whistle Port Perry went on the offensive. Dawn Doucette opened the scoring in the first period at the 11:30 mark. Amy Parliament, who had a very strong game on white stick, popped in Port's next three goals, followed closely by Karen Kett with goal number five. Assists in the first period were handed out to Karen Kett (2); Megan Marlowe, Dawn Doucette (2) and Amy Parliament. Megan Marlowe opened the scoring in the second period by flipping the ring int@ the unpro- 'tected upper corner of the net. Amy Parliament popped in goal number seven for her fourth goal of the game. Goals number nine and ten werescored by Jennifer Smith. Assists went to Amy Parliament, Karen Kett, Dawn Doucette and Jennifer Morden with two. The Ivory Forest Juniors domi- nated the play throughout the game. The girls made the ice their domain as they put forth an excel- lent team effort and effectively controlled the play throughout the two periods. Legion Pee Wee A's The Port Perry Legion Pee Wee A Team saw lots of action as they hit the ice for three league games last week. Thursday night the Pee Wee A's met Ajax on home ice. Ajax scored carly in the first period but Port's Kevin Hobbs soon tied the game with an assist by Todd Parry, Ajax again took the lead in the second period, but Port jumped ahead with two goals Phillips, Mike Morden and Rob Murphy. Port seemed determined to win this one as they popped two more in the net during the third period. Chris Drury, on defence, found the comer with an assists for Tom Chambers. Brad Morton stuffed in his second goal of the night with assists going to Matt Phillips and Mike Heasman. Final score was Port Perry 5, Ajax 2, Friday night Port Perry trav- elled to Cobourg for a 9:15 p.m. start. Port lead the way late in the first period with a goal by Daryl McEnaney assisted by Jeff Clarke and Kevin Hobbs. The second period remained scoreless as neither team man- aged to get the puck past the goalies. It looked like Port would hold on to that one goal lead to finish the game but Cobourg found the net late in the third to end this ope in a | to 1 tie. Nice try boys, you almost made it! Port hit the trail to the east again on Sunday to meet Port Hope. Port Hope was ag to prove a point and they meant business. Port Perry seemed tired and lagged behind for quite some time. Incomplgte passes, slow shots and no shots by our boys saw Port Hope take a 4 to 0 lead half way through the second peri- od. 7 Finally, Port Perry got their second wjhd. Jason Logan scored for Port with assists going to Daryl McEnancy and Mike Heasman. Then Mike Morden popped one past the Port Hope goalie assisted by Daryl McEnaney and Tim Fitzpatrick. Port Hope scored again and then with 36 seconds left on the clock for period two, Tim Fitzpatrick got a breakaway and blasted Port's third goal into the net. Port Perry looked better in the third period but the Port Hope goalie grabbed everything in sight. Too bad boys! Final score Port Hope 6, Port Perry 3. Our goalie Brian Bickmore and Luke Camaghan hung tough all weekend. Keep up the good work boys, all was not lost! This tcam has always proven to be a-worthy opponent and tonight was no exception. From the drop of the puck to the final buzzer, Port had some diffi- culty gaining control of the puck. Somewhat frustrated, the Pineridge boys spent some unwanted time the penalty box, allowing Manvers to capitalize. Shane and Jon were met with plenty of target practise with Manvers lighting the scoreboard in their favor. Port did, however, strike one for ourselves in the dying minutes of the game. When Greg Bruton accepted a pass from Dave Gainey and made good on it, Also assisting was Ryan McQuade. On Saturday the boys trav- elled to Babcaygeon for their annual lousrament. Their first opponent was our local neighbors, Oakwood. Port proved to be no match for Oakwood, as they dominated the play and left us skating for plea- sure. The tone was set carly in the game and Oakwood saw lights flashing. Pat, however gave a valiant effort as all mem- bers tricd to find the slot without any success giving Oakwood a shutout. On to Game 2, the team shook off their previous loss and con- centrated on their next game. With Bobcaygeon on the ice with Port, the game was up for grabs. Bobcaygeon took 1st crack at the net taking the lead by the end of the first period. Second period say Port pull up their socks and close down this period tied at 2 apiece. Third period was all Ports, as they overpowered Bobcaygeon and won the game by a large margin 7-2. Scoring was Scott Sanderson, Adam Hobbs 2 goals 2 assists, Ryan McQuade 1 goal, 1 assist, lan Parliament 2 assists, Nick Pelyk and Greg Bruton 1 goal apiece, Chris Jones and Dave Gainey 1 assist each. Shooting for Port was lan Parliament and Adam Hobbs and representing our net was Shane Savage. lan and Adam both put in a com- mendable effort for Port while Shane Savage carned the silver trophy as he allowed only 4 goals during the contest. Way to go boys! Our Opponent for the champi- onship game was Fenelon Falls (Fenelon Falls #9 won the shutout). Fenelon Falls won the starting face-off and within the first minute Savage met up with #9, without success, giving Fenelon Falls the go ahead goal. From then on, Shane was deter- mined to not allow any further rubber in his net. The rest of the team showed the same determi. nation as they were extremely sharp throughout the game. Their aggressiveness paid off as they beat the opponent at every turn. The defense was instrumental in keeping the play offensively. However, it wasn't until second period that Adam Hobbs made a picture perfect pass to Ian Parliament who put the puck through the goalies Jegs.* Also assisting wag Brad Monsma. The constant forechecking paid off as Greg Bruton found the mesh, scoring,unassisted. The boys closed at the second period with a final goal when Adam Hobbs found Scott Sanderson in front of the net and made a great play, pay. Also assisting on this goal was lan Parliaments _Third period saw Chambers in net and Fenelon tried to capital- ize on this goalie change without success. The third period remained scoreless as both made valiant efforts to wore. final score 3-1. The winners, Pineridge Sports! Well earned MVP for this game was Adam Hobbs. Although not figuring in the scoring the defensemen have to ded for an Ii effort.
