JUST THE FACTS Ryan Kaitting, vice-president at Cush- man & Wakefield Waterloo Region, an- nounced earlier this summer that the Old Firehall Confectionery has leased space at 35 King St. N., with plans to open its third location in 2022. Kaitting said the business is best in class at everything it does, from "flavour profiled and meticulously tested" hand- made truffles to macarons, cupcakes and freshly made gelato. The company's flagship location inside Unionville's old firehall includes a contem- porary kitchen that defines classic charm, according to its website, which features a long list of delectable treats, including fudge, various beverages and ice cream in homemade waffle cones. Waterloo city council approved redevel- opment of the historic post building in 2018 for both office and retail purposes. The three-storey building is a designat- ed heritage building under the Ontario Heritage Act and features a clock tower built in 1912. Prior to the First World War, cadets oc- cupied the large rear portion of the build- ing for training. The post office was on the first floor, the customs office was on the second floor and the quarters for live-in caretakers were on the third floor.
