Description

This photocopy of The Rideau Gleaner is from the collection of Smiths Falls Public Library. The Rideau Gleaner was a short-lived newspaper that was published in Smiths Falls from the fall of 1858 until 1861 or 1862.

The Smiths Falls Public Library has a small number of photocopied issues of The Rideau Gleaner in its collection, and of these, 14 issues from 1860 fit the library's scanner. The photocopied issues from 1858 and 1859 were too large for the scanner, but are available for research. The location of the original newspapers used to create the photocopies is unknown. The condition of the original newspapers varied, including torn pages, missing sections and incomplete issues.

The photocopied issues from 1858 and 1859 that were too large for scanning are: 1858 - 12 January, 8 November (1 page), 10 November, [date missing] November (1 page), and 1 December, 8 December (1 page, several loose copy pages from December; 1859 - 19 January, 26 January, 2 February, 9 February, 16 February, 23 February, 16 March, 23 March and 28 September and 10 November (1 page) and several loose copy pages. (There are also a number of loose copy photocopied sections of the newspaper that are currently orphaned without any date information).
