Score Pizza's plans to open in April were delayed due to pandemic restrictions; how- ever hiring had been done prior to the on- set of COVID-19, said general manager Ga- brielle Arvanitis Training for about 15 employees was completed at a soft opening recently and the store opened to the public June 30. The company's fifth location in uptown will be a corporate store, in addition to other loca- tions in Ottawa (two), London and Kingston. It's no mistake that all five location are in university towns, said founder Joel Braunstein. The concept for Score Pizza was based on the fast, casual style developed in the U.S. about a decade ago, said Braunstein. "The whole premise is it's very quick," he said. "Even with a lineup out the door, you're in and out in 10 minutes with a pizza in your hand the way you want it." The stone-fired oven is set at 282C (540F), Arvanitis said. "What separates us from most pizza plac- es is that we do a build-your-own unlimited topping for one price ($12.95)," he said. Braunstein said the dough is made fresh in house and toppings such as the sausage, chicken and pulled pork are of the highest quality. Produce is brought in fresh six days a week. The menu also includes fired sandwich- es like The Hipster, as well as a variety of salads, desserts and drinks, including red and white wine, and beer on tap. While the majority of business will be takeout for the time being, due to distanc- ing requirements, Braunstein said that it's usually about 50-50 in other locations, with plenty of dine-in seating available when the time is right.
