Town staff announced that Oakville's Commer- cial Recovery Initiative has been extended into 2021, which includes a pro- gram for the temporary in- stallation of patios, bistros and merchandizing on public and private lands. The initiative permits local businesses, like res- taurants, to seat more cus- tomers while still observ- ing physical distancing rules. Town staff said 92 of these patio permits were issued in 2020 for restau- rants and eateries across Oakville. They said application fees related to processing patio permits have been waived again for this year. Patio season in Oak- ville opens Thursday, April 1. Town staff said these patios can be set up no ear- lier than March 26 and while the regular patio season closes on Monday, Nov. 1, extensions may be issued for continued patio use through to Dec. 31. All patios must have a valid Town of Oakville per- mit/agreement prior to their installation, set up and operation. Any proposed heating devices and tents/struc- tures must comply with the 2021 Covered and Heat- ed Patios Requirements and Guidelines.
