I'm writing to express my frustration and disap- pointment with the recent actions of Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner. This has been a chal- lenging past 10 months for everybody. We have all been asked to sacrifice so much to confront this pan- demic. It is beyond dishearten- ing that somebody in the chief's position would so blatantly defy government recommendations and travel. Why is he above the rules that everybody is be- ing asked to follow for the greater good? I did not get to see my grandmother for the last seven months of her life be- cause of restrictions. My young sons are currently missing out on the benefits of in-person schooling be- cause of restrictions. So why must I, an aver- age resident, sacrifice so much when an appointed official in such a presti- gious position gets to flout the rules? Chief Tanner, your ac- tions demonstrate how en- titled you are. Entitled to think that the rules don't apply to you. Entitled to on- ly apologize for making an error in judgment once you got caught. I appreciate you are hu- man and we all make mis- takes. I am not trying to vil- ify you because we are all living in an unprecedented and challenging time. But you have certainly tarnished the respect I would have for somebody in your position. I appreciate the chief has published an apology but, honestly, it doesn't seem like enough. The only way we will get to better days is if every- body does their part. I ex- pect our municipal and re- gional leaders to not only talk the talk, but walk the walk.
