The work estimated at more than $10 million in- cludes the replacement of underground infrastruc- ture, road widening and re- construction, including con- struction of concrete curbs, separated cycling lanes, side- walks, retaining walls and noise walls. The region's project man- ager William Gilbert said the road will be wideneded to four lanes of traffic (two in each direction), between Ga- teview Drive/Beechwood Drive and Erbsville Court where there currently is only one eastbound lane. The rest of Erb Street between Fi- scher-Hallman Road and Ira Needles Boulevard currently has two lanes of traffic in each direction. The separated cycling lanes are being provided on each side of the road between Fischer-Hallman Road and Erbsville Court where cy- cling facilities are currently non existent, Gilbert noted. "These separated cycling lanes will be adjacent to the travelled lanes of the road with a depressed/flattened curb separating them from the adjacent traffic and marked as reserved cycling lanes." According to a report to council, construction is scheduled to start in late May with one lane in each di- rection open to through traf- fic at all times. Construction to base asphalt is expected to be complete by the end of 2020, with surface paving in early 2021. The report says access to properties, local businesses and side streets within the project limits will be main- tained and temporary clo- sures for underground works will be completed by contractor flagging as neces- sary.
