Family Owned & Operated with 30 Years Experience. Gracie Wood, a Grade 5 student at Lester B. Pear- son Public School in Wa- terloo, was recently select- ed by audition through Ballet Jörgen's Nutcrack- er Youth Education Local Participant Program to dance with Ballet Jörgen's professional dance compa- ny at Centre in the Square on December 28th in The Nutcracker: A Canadian Tradition. The beloved family holi- day classic will be at Kitch- ener's Centre in the Square on Friday, December 28th for two performances, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Gracie, who has just turned ten, loves to dance, and is now in her fourth year of studying dance at Waterloo's Star Perfor- mance Academy. Besides dance, Gracie loves art, math puzzles and problem solving, reading, running, biking, kayaking, and is al- ways ready to try new out- doors activities. Says Gracie, "I love The Nutcracker because it takes you on a magical journey and there are dancers of all ages and chances for kids like me to take part in the ballet. Last year we went to see The Nutcracker at the National Ballet and got to take a tour backstage with Ste- phanie (Hutchison) and Lorna (Geddes), (two Na- tional Ballet dancers from Kitchener and Waterloo). It was an awesome experi- ence." This year, Gracie is go- ing to perform in The Nut- cracker: A Canadian Tra- dition at Centre in The Square. She is really excit- ed about the opportunity of working with profes- sional dancers and other young dancers like herself. The Nutcracker: A Ca- nadian Tradition is cho- reographed by renowned choreographer and Artis- tic Director of Canada's Ballet Jörgen, Bengt Jör- gen, and takes its inspira- tion from Group of Seven paintings housed at Klein- burg's world-renowned McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
