When I first ran as a candidate for Ward 1 in 2003, my motivation was to offer my experience, cre- ativity and passion, as skills to foster growth in our community. After 15 years in Ward 1, these ele- ments still persist, but are now coupled with the knowledge that this area has been a fantastic place to raise my two children. The opportunities, beauty, safety and facilities avail- able in our city have all contributed to a fortunate lifestyle for my family. It is this belief that has been central in my need to offer my services as a councillor. Having already secured the support and respect of the public means a great deal to me and my back- ground as a high school teacher. I have been a coach, director, mentor, fa- cilitator and executive member in various capaci- ties. My background in- cludes committee and so- cial work, business experi- ence, multimedia projects, a vast communications ed- ucation and an inclusive leadership style. Although the City of Wa- terloo and the Ward 1 area have established a commu- nity with significant ad- vantages, I still feel that there is room to improve and a need for more politi- cal outreach. Speaking with residents, I have been told citizens want to know that what they have in their communities will be pro- tected. They worry about infrastructure, zoning, en- vironmental impact, traf- fic flow and, of course, the level of taxation. I am honoured to be a candidate for Ward 1 coun- cillor and am proud of my community and the people that make it such a great place. It is my hope that all residents will be engaged, ask questions, share con- cerns and respect our dem- ocratic institutions by vot- ing. In addition, I would like to salute the other can- didates who have sacri- ficed time, energy and fi- nances to participate in this important process.
