The Canadian Football League legend, on the field and as a coach, owned the room with an interactive and captivating deliv- ery where he used some of his own experience as a coach and player to express the importance of food banks and giving back. "As a coach on a team, we can try to do some food stuff, but the other team might be doing some better stuff. So we don't want to do good things, we want to do the best things. Does that make sense? So when we help the most vulnerable, we're not just doing a good thing, we're doing the best thing. We're actually giving digni- ty to our community," said Cle- mons. The 53-year-old Florida native, who is vice-chairman of the To- ronto Argonauts, inspired the hundreds in attendance at the food bank's warehouse. "There's a poverty that's great- er than having nothing to eat: that poverty is being unloved, un- wanted, uncared for, forgotten. You see when you live in a com- munity with this level of afflu- ence and people who cannot eat, it's bigger than just nothing to eat," he said. Clemons, a star running back for the Argonauts from 1989-2000, holds numerous records as a play- er, including most all-purpose yards in CFL history. He was part of three Grey Cup -winning squads as a player and was elect- ed into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
