TJ Flynn, co-ordinator of com- munity relations for the Ion LRT, said the two vehicles are still loaded on their rail cars but should be off-loaded in the com- ing days. They will then be prepped for tests before going into service at the end of this year. Flynn expects another deliv- ery of LRT vehicles sometime next month but couldn't say how many vehicles would be part of that delivery. Eight vehicles are now in the region, meaning more than half of the 14 Ion vehicles have been delivered, he said. The trains are expected to be- gin running between Conestoga Mall in Waterloo and Fairview Park mall in Kitchener in Decem- ber. Originally, manufacturer Bombardier was to have deliv- ered all 14 train cars by December 2016. In April it was revealed that delays have so far cost the Region of Waterloo almost $25 million, but the region intends to go after the company to recoup those loss- es. There is also no word on whether serious welding defects discovered in Toronto Transit Commission streetcars built by Bombardier are also present in the region's LRT vehicles. Region sees surge in reported cases of Hepatitis A WATERLOO REGION - Re- gion of Waterloo Public Health is hosting drop-in immunization clinics following a rise in Hepati- tis A cases. On average about six cases of Hepatitis A are reported to public health a year, but since May there have been 19 cases, the region said in a news release. Among the cases reported, a common risk factor is the use of drugs through intravenous, inha- lation or the oral consumption. The liver infection can cause fe- ver, nausea, abdominal pain, di- arrhea, jaundice, dark urine and pale stool. Drop-in immunization clinics are being held this week in Water- loo at 99 Regina St. South, and in Cambridge at 150 Main St. Clinic times are as follows: • Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m. • Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Thursday from 1 to 6 p.m. • Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit us online at Waterloochronicle.ca NEWS
