A number from here attended the |} funeral of the late Wesley Gilson, of |! Lindsay, which was held at. Salem church on Monday afternoon. The regular meeting of the W. A. meeting opened by singing "Take Time to Be Holy," followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. Miss Ellen Stokes then read the Scripture lesson. Plans were made for a Valentine Party to be held in the basement of the church on Wednesday evening, February 15th. It was also voted to pay $15 to the minister's salary, be- sides the quarterly contribution. A short program was then given consisting of a reading by Mrs. Nor- man Osborne, and a piano duet Hall. The meeting closed by singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and the Mizpah Benediction. By the death of Mrs. Silas Jacobs on January 18th, an old and respected resident is mourned. Mrs. Jacobs was formerly Emily Hicks. Her par- was only six weeks' old, travelling over corduroy roads in a lumber wagon. For a number of years her father was a shoemaker and- carried on business- here, walking to Bowman- ville and carrying home on his back his supply of leather, one hundred pounds being his usual load. CHAMBERS & SON Bakers and Confectioners Jacobs were married in Little Britain, and spent the first seven years of their married life in Port Perry where Mr. Jacobs was employed on one of the regular boats running from that Leslie was born there. Some years later they found their way to Vancouver where Mr. Jacobs was captain of a vessel engaged in the salmon business. They later re- turned to Huntsville where they lived for a number of years, Mr. Jacobs be- ing engaged as manager of a naviga- tion company. While there, their only son Leslie and his wife both died, leaving two sons Frank and Norman to the care of the grandparents. At the close of the war they settled with their grandsons on the farm on which they both spent the] evening of their lives. Two years ago last D ber they celebrated their diamond wedding. Two months later Mrs. Jacobs lost her devoted husband, but was tenderly cared for by Norman and his wife. Left to mourn her loss, besides her two grandsons, are six great grandchildren. Annie, her only daughter, died at the age of two and a half years. The funeral on Jan. 20th, to Little Britain United Ceme- tery, was largely attended and was in charge of her pastor, Rev. The Port Perry Star J. J. HAMBLY DIES IN MANITOBA The death from pneumonia of John J. Hambly, a resident of Manitoba for the past 30° years, occurred in the Misericorda hospital, in his 78th year. Mr. Hambly was born at Purple Hill, Durham County, Ont., on June 6th, 1865, and moved to Manitoba in 1900, from Port Perry; where he was a resident for a number of years.
