ORCHESTRAL RECITAL * Last Sunday evening in the United Church, at Port Perry, the orchestra assisted in the musical part of the service, and at the conclusion of the regular service, they gave a pleasing recital. Mr. Hayner, of Oshawa, sang a beautiful tenor solo. I HOCKEY The first game of the season turned out to be a very live one. After having several of their 0.H.A. games postponed, Port Perry finally (with the aid of a few hours of cold weather) met the Rouge Hill team in the Port Perry Arena on Monday, Jan, 11th, and a real fast game followed. The following was the line-up: Rouge Hill--Goal, John Cavanagh; Defence, A. B. Bradley and A. Bye; Centre, W. Bradley; Right Wing, W. Treadway; Left Wing, W. Shorting; Subs, A. Vince, G. Offin, D. Dix, J. Miller. Port Perry--Goal, N. Deshane; De- be fence, M. McDonald and G. Raines; Centre, J. Sleightholm, L. Wing, Sleightholm, R. Wing, F. Switzer; Subs, E. Sleightholm, R. Cornish, D. Dowson, A. J. Miller. The puck was first secured by the Port Perry team who endeavoured to make a three man rush on the Rouge Hill goal, but lost it when they reach- ed the defence. Both teams worked hard but made no progress until about +» fifteen minutes of the period had gone, then E. Sleightholm, taking the pass from centre ice, stick handled his way through the defence, shot and scored the first goal for Port Perry. The battle had begun, Rouge team trying hard to even the goal lead, but met with a stubborn defence along with a first class goalie who would not let them succeed. About this time Raines secured the puck at his own defence and starting up through the Rouge team, reached the defence; he there broke the first stick for the season. The next goal scored was a pass from Raines to Dave Dowson, who put a hot one past the goalie. The next three goals were scored by E. Sleightholm. The last of these ; scored in a face off right near 'Rouge Hill net, with both teams a y short. Then the gong sounded p first period ended with the 5 0 in favour of Port Perry. second period W. Bradley r Rouge Hill, then as if just sure they had enough or to even half dozen, E. Sleight- vd the C.| Who loved you most sincere. Not many years ago fatness was regarded as a sign of robust health, but wé know now that it is undesirable even in babies or young children. Dr. Lechmere Anderson, medical officer for Doncaster, England, claims that the phrase should be "Laugh and grow healthy." "Laughter," he says "js essentially associated with good health, but adipose tissue, if at all un- due, cannot be regarded as a favorable condition. Leanness of body is far more likely to "be associated with strength and energy." The fat person, he explains, has to make his heart and his muscles work far harder than they were designed to with an extra load of from one to several stones. For those who wish to become slim and healthy Dr, Anderson recommends the taking of little sugar, bread or starchy foods--and laughter. Bert Johnston and his Magic and Comedy Show will give you enough laughs, for 26¢. to last a year, as he gives two hours of laughs and amuse- ment at the Town Hall, Port Perry, on Friday, January 16th.
