The aflirmative was upheld by Tom Harris and Miss Marion Goode, and the negative by Miss Kitching and Bever- ley Smallman. The affirmative won. The debate was very profitable. The negative argued that travel gave first hand information about the facts of lite; but the. affirmative countered that an untrained mind could not see correctly, that reading is es- sential to a proper knowledge of lifé and all the facts connected with it. It was proved that we have some talented debaters among our young people. PORT PERRY PICTURE HOUSE will present the great British picture "THE PHYSICIAN" on Saturday of this week, May 9. "The Physician" is a play written by Henry Arthur Jones and originally produced by Charles Wyndham at the Criterion Theatre, London, in March, 1897, with himself as Dr. Carey. The film follows the play fairly closely, with some necessary elaboration. It is a wonderful stage production. The play is based on the theory that a dipsomaniac can never permanently regain mental control. In this treat- ment we are shown a man, who be- cause he knows of the evils of alcohol, turns temperance reformer and is sin- cere in his efforts to warn the rising generation of the dangers of drink. It was also learned today: by The Times that papers are now in course of preparation appointing W. J. Correll, of Whitby, as deputy registrar. Mr, Correll has been at- tached to the staff of the local regis- try office for the past 25'years, and his promotion is recognition for his long and faithful service. _ When seen at the registry office today, Dr. Moore stated that he would continue to reside in Brooklin until he is able to dispose of his medical practice. Dr. Moore is one eof the best known physicians in South Ont- tarfo, having practised in this district for the past quarter century. During the Great War he served overseas in the Medical Corps with the rank of major. Ultimately he hopes to make his home in Whitby. With a touch of mingled humor and regret, the new registrar, formerly one of the staunchest warhorses in soctation, informed the reporter that he was out of politics for good." "I am now one of the great army of silent politicians," he commented. --Oshawa Times BE a J. A.
