HENRY, Manager Do Not Exhaust Your Resources The person who makes his living in a community, re- ceiving money of the community for his labor, or the pro- ducts of his labor, and then spends his money outside of his community is helping to exhaust its resources, just as the man who expends his energy through dissipation or over- exertion faster than he builds it up is exhausting his physi- cal resources. A man may do this, of course, without notice- ably affecting the economic strength of his community, but when a dozen men,or women do 80, the effect becomes notice- able, and when a hundred do it the resources of the com- munity beeome exhausted to a point where collapse is in- evitable. Those who are responsible for this situation may think they have profited individually by their actions, but in the end they are the losers. The merchants of any com- munity are its backbone. Individually some are not boosters for their community, but collectively they are the men upon whom you should depend and give your support. The failure of one merchant means nothing, but the success of the majority of merchants in your community spells suc- cess for them as well as its residents. Be individual bank- ers."
