It is seldom empty and children are there from early in the morning and after dark at night enjoying the fun of sliding. SR THE SPRING BOARD Those who dive at the water front will be pleased because the Council have placed a spring board at the dock. One feature in connection with it should not be overlooked. When the diver is through with the board, it should be swung back over the dock, as it is a source of danger to incoming motor boats being just about high enough to give any one a nasty crack in the head when the boat is coming to the landing place. RCH tat SHI] COUNTY GOVERNMENT (Elmira Signet) County Government, not alone in Wellington, but also in Waterloo and all over the Province is costing too much money. The present method of administering the county with a coun- cil and large committees is too ex- pensive. A small board of controllers technical officials to assist could administer a county more cheaply and more effectively. County taxes are getting too high. DISTRACTED MOTHER SLAYS LITTLE GIRLS (Toronto Globe) The home of\ George Fanning, a farmer living on lot 3, con. 8, South Ops, was the scene this morning of a terrible tragedy when, in his absence his wife strangled their two little children, Lois aged eight, and Bernice aged seven, and then attempted to throat with a razor, It appears that the act was the re- sult of much planning, although act- ually done while in a fit of depression. In the cellar the mother had run a board across two bins. Under- neath she placed two chairs and four or five cushions were found on the floor. Using two piéces of a sugar sack she strung the children up to the board above then apparently re- moved the chairs. When the children were dead she carried them up to their bed on the floor above and then going into her own room she cut her throat 'with a razor. It was here her husband found her on his return about 11 am. On his departure earlier in the day for Janetville on business his two little girls had helped him get ready and had seen him off 'with a wave of their hand. His wife had also ap- peared quite herself. On returning it was customary for the children to meet their father and receive any treat he had brought for them, When they did not do so this morn- ing he thought nothing of it, but, putting his horse away he entered the house only to find the kitchen floor covered with blood stains, The door of his wife's bedroom was locked and on breaking it open he found his wife siting on the bed with her throat 'partially cut. He asked her where the children were and she told him they were both dead. He then went to their rooms where he made the gruesome discovery. Dr. summoned and later Dr. Logan, Cor- oner, who impanelled a jury, which after viewing the remains adjourned until Friday night. Dr. McCulloch brought Mrs. Fanning back to Lind- say Hospital, where it'is thought she' | will recover. Neighbors and friends, as well as the bereaved husband, can give no cause, for the terrible crime. To all family, Mr. and Mrs. Fanning have been married about nine years. She was Miss Pearl Alldred, of Little | Britain, and is 28 years of age, while ] he is 8 about 86 years of age. ---- : REAL SPORT FOR THE ANGLER x Lo by %| Dollar Bottle of his| really good.
