In point of fact, although the matter has-been under consider- ation for some time, it is not yet considered an opportune time for taking the vote in the several school sections that shall -decide whether or no the school shall be built. It is felt that as yet the ratepayers are not sufficiently informed as to the facts, and be- several trustee boards represented, to each send a delegate to study the Consolidated School at Mallorytown, and to see what is being done at Wellington. ' . The scheme of Consolidation as at present outlined would take in 8. 8. No. 1, Whitby, S. S. No. 8, Brooklin, S. S. No. 6, Whitby, and part of Union S. S. No. 2, on Townline between Whitby and Pickering. The estimated cost of the six-roomed building is $35,000, of which it is expected that the Government would pay $12,000. The cost of salaries, transportation and up-keep is placed at $9,020, with total annual grants of $5,186. At present the mill rate in the various sections is as follows: -- Present Teachers Assessment School Rate $166,341_.____ 5.3 mills 881,985 88 * School 8.8. No. L Whitby 6, Union 2, Totals..__137.....__ 5.... $740,648 Under Consolidation the rate would be 8.6 mills, which rate would be uniform in all the sections included.
