Methodist S. S. Picnic A large number attended the Meth- odist Sunday School picnic at Stephenson's Grove, Scugog Island, and enjoyed themselves thoroughly-- that is while they werejthere. Aftcr awhile a brisk storm 'came up, and a large number of people found shelter in the Stephenson barn, where they ate their supper in picnic style, seated in groups on the hay. Some few en- joyed the hospitality of the cottagers at Pettitt's Point, and some were whisked home so fast in autos that it almost took their breath away, and left them a little uncertain as to whether they had really been at the picnic or had just dreamed that they had seen the kiddies paddling in the water, the boys and girls running | races, the old folk enjoying peace and - a quiet time, and people of every age and. description doing their best to + reduce Sarvis' supply of ice-cream, pop, all-day-suckers, etc., before the storm came up. - But it was no dream--ask the youngsters. He looped the loop with his machine alighted in a po- tato patch, damaged his airship, but was himself unhurt. Harry does not wish to repeat his experiefices. Whitby The question of special rates for electricity used for cooking is raised in Whitby. The town is very much alive on the electric situation, It look as though the County Seat were waking up, and would justify the im- portance the County has bestowed upon it. The sleepy days are passing and there should be a big future for the County Town. Perhaps the day will come when Whitby and Oshawa will make a big city. Perhaps. But don't tell Oshawa. 3 A contract has been awarded for rebuilding the gymnasium at the High Schohl. It is probable that the cost of the improvements will be in the neighbourhood of $700. Lt-Col. Dr. MecGillivary has. re- turned from Salonika after many nar- row. escapes. . Among other exper- iences, the ship on which he was travelling -- the Dover Castle, was torpedoed and sunk. However, the passengers were picked up by another hospital ship and arrived safely at their destination.
