Honorably Discharged Lieut Clifford Jackson who was in training for the Royal Flying Corps, has been homorably discharged. As if quite common in the British Army the discharge was given without any reason assigned; but it is understood that this branch of military service is receiving recruits much faster than they can be used. The discharge, though it reflects not the slightest discredit on Clifford, comes as an in- tense disappointment to him. L. In this play tragedy, romance, and pathos combine to make a picture of thrilling interest. Don't miss it. George Lane George Lance is dead. He was a well known figure around town, an honorable hard working man, whose industry is well shown in his tidy and well kept garden and home. He lov- ed gardening and the cultivation of flowers and his principal work was along these lines. Many a house- holder has had his garden cleaned by George Lane and he always did a good job. The untiring faithfulness of Mr Lane in everything he under- took was a quality that made for him many friends. In his quiet way he was a liberal giver to all patriotic work. For years Mr Lane has been care- taker of the Presbyterian church. although he was a member of the Methodist church. He was a most censcientious Christian man. Last fall his health failed and he travelled south to spend the winter with his sisters in Virginia and Pitfs- burg. While he was visiting his sister in Pittsburg he was taken ser- iously ill and word was received by|s Mr George Mark on Saturday last of his death. He was buricd at the Pine Grove Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, You Are Invited A meeting is called at the Public Library on Friday evening of this week The following .1s- the 'standing of the Port Perry Curpet Ball Eeague:-- Watch 'this 'space we weekly features: : tir Wanted Good general servant. | Apply references to J H Dent, Ma ) Canadian Bank of Commerce, Oshawa LOST ey D iamond pin either on front street or at the station $25 reward to finder, Apply at Star office or Box 128, Port Perry. (Not Winnie) Presbytery of Whitby | The Presbytery of Whitby met in | special session on 'Tuesday of last week to deal with the call from Knox Church, Dunnville, to Rev. W. J. West, M.A. Rev. N. D. McKinnon prosecuted the call and referred to the very hearty and unanimous call extended, no other name being mentioned. He also referred to the growing town of Dunnville, with its splendid schools and prospects, and urged the Presby- tery to grant the translation. Mr Jas. Waddell and Mr. Samuel Baird, representing the session and congregation of Port Perry, spoke of the splendid work done by Mr. West and his adaptability to the' work here and feared it would be with great loss to the congregation if he should leave The call was then placed in Mr West's hands, and after referring to the. work. in Post Perry, and the splendid feeling there, and the ties which bound him to the charge, stated that he felt it his duty tooccept the call. ; It was then moved that the transla- tion be granted to take effect on and after the 4th of April next, and Rev. Mr. Johnston, of Ashburn; was ap- pointod interim moderator, All of the members of Presbytery spoke in the highest terms of Mr. West as a member of Presbytery, and uf the impress he had left on its workings, and regretted his leaving its bounds. Mr. West will close his ministry in St. John's Presbyterlan church next Sabbath. April 1st. the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be observed, and in the every } at 8 o'clock, for the formation of a horticultural society.
