Miss Pearl McLean, school teacher, of Fort William, is home for the sum- mer vacation visiting with her parents. Miss Gertrude Vickery, of Lindsay, is visiting with her gradmother, Mrs. E. A. Vickery, and friends. Mr. James Moore, of Eglinton, is visiting friends in Port Perry and Scugog. Mr. John Stovin, accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Wm. Jamieson, left last week for an extended visit to relatives in Saskatchewan. Mrs. Wannamaker, of Toronto, has 'been visiting fiiends in town and ~Scugog. Mr. Harry Nott left town on Mon- day to accept a position in Whitby. Mr. and Mrs. Joe. Sisson spent last week in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Drouley, of Toronto, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Rolph. Mr. and Mrs. James McKnight, of Toronto, are visitors with his mother, Mrs. Robert McKnight. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Bruce, Toronto, are visitors with Mrs. Jas. Carnegie. Mr. and Mrs, F. R. Smith, Winni- peg, Man, tormerly of Port Perry, announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Mipna Anna, to Mr. J. W. Dawson of Winnipeg, the marriage to take place early in August. Miss Evelyn Rodman is spending her holidays with friends in Peterboro. Mr. Gordon Brooks, of Belleville, spent Sunday in town, Rev. Victor McLean, of Whitney, New Ontario, occupied the pulpit of the Presbyterian Church last Sabbath evening. Mr. McLean has charge of a very large mission field in New On- tario and Algenguin Park. Reeve Geo. Gerow has purchased the Hambly property on Lilla street, and Mr. Frank Shepherd has bought a building lot on the north-east corner of the same property. Mr. H. Nasmith has had the house which he recently purchased from the Allison estate renovated and painted. Master Rex Slemmon, of Ottawa, and Victor Hodgins, of Myrtle, are "holidaying with Mrs. J. Coates should go to Seattle to see her brother, who has been ill there for some time, and if possible have him removed to his home in Port Perry. Word has come, however, 'that such a move would not be possible, and the trip has been cancelled. Mr. W. Irvin continues seriously ill. = Mr. and Mrs. F. W. McIntyre re- arfed home on Tuesday evening, after spending a few days at Fergus, Ontario, Mr. McIntyie's former home Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Gage, Rev. Dr. and Mrs, Hincks, and Mr. Ambrose Kent, all of Toronto, motored out to "Beechcroft," the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred. A. Kent, last Saturday. Mr. George Asling and daughter, of Hamilton, were the guests of Mr. As- ling's sister, Mrs. John Bradley, last week. Miss Asling will remain for some time. Mr. Fred. A. Kent is growing some very beautiful roses at his Port Perry home. They are worth the work re- quired, to any person whe loves flowers. The Royal Theatre put on a good moving picture show on Monday evening, and had a crowded house. Pictures will. be put on Wednesday and. Friday of this week. Cates Hon The Cadets put in last week at Niagara, and next year it is intended that the camp shall be at North Bay. It is quite an experience for the boys who catch a glimpse of the outer world. The day begins at 6 a.m, when a cannon is fired to waken the boys who at once begin to fold their three blankets which constitute their beds --two wool blankets and one of rubber. This rubber blanket is placed on the ground and a woolen one on top of it. On this the cadet sleeps after having removed his boots and wrapped himself in his remainiug blanket--just every bit as good as the soft side of a plank. The bugle blows "Dress for parade boys," the tent flaps are raised and the boys form up for their morning devotions. fast of porridge (without salt) .bread and butter, eggs, jam and coffee, Drill started at 9.00 a.m. and last- ed till noon. = Dinner followed, and the afternoon was given to the boys for recreation, including a swimming parade at 3.30 p.m: Supper was served at 6 p.m., and the evening was generally spent at the Y.M.C.A. tent, where the boys. took part in sports of various kinds, and were treated to a free moving picture show. About ten p.m. the bugles blew "lights out," and then all was quiet -- perhaps.
