But that gasoline engine gets through the job at about $30 per year, while equal elettric capacity would cost $108 per year. - True, we could turn on the switch any time night or day; but. we don't need power all the time, and until we do we shall not spend that extra $78 on this powerful luxury. It would be presumption on our part to critize the Hydro-Electfie power proposition; because we know nothing accurate and definite about it except this--large centres like Toronto will always be able to compete with smaller places like Port Perry, because power can be supplied: to the larger municipality at so much less than it can be supplied here. Part of this cost of supply 1s the building and upkeep of the lines of transmission, This _ is quite large, and cannot be avoided. This difference in cost of power to the various municipalities is very awkward to say the least of it, and at present it looks as though- we should be compelled toforego the pleasure of using Hydro-Electric power. The day may come, and we hope it will, when the farmers will 'use electric power in the manner indicated by Mr. Beek.
